I'm still not convinced Buffalo will be good this year, but they have some pieces and Ruff tends to get the most out of what he has.

My gut feeling is Boston and Ottawa are the only two who are still playoff quality, Buffalo could be 8th place contenders though.

After tonight's game and the one from yesterday Buffalo plays a solid defensive game, but man when Miller is on he is on..He always does this against the Leafs..they're going to be a good team.

Leafs were worst than the score and shot count... Buffalo with an avalanche of bad penalties and homer calls one after the other... Puck in the crowd, Kaleta with a couple of idiotic roughing calls, offensive zone out of the play tripping, etc... That's when the Leafs got their shots... They basically looked awful. They'll be terrible this season.

The more I follow the flames, the more interest I gain in their misery. 2 in a row boys, can they make it three? :naughty:

It's just too bad that we could not get their 1st for Cammy. I have a feeling that both us and the Flames will finish in the bottom 5.

Don't forget the trade deadline Marble.

Five or six picks in the top 40 is not out of the question here.

The upcoming draft (2013) is so important for the Habs' future. If I was MB, I will go all in and try to get as many draft pick as I can in the first two rounds. There are so many good players in this draft and there is possibility to get another Subban, another MaxPac.

I would trade guys like Gionta and Markov but I would want to keep the rest because young players need vets as they get into the NHL. If we dump all of our vets we run the risk of stunting the growth of our young players. Pleks is still needed until we get another decent centre.

Gionta scored a goal and Markov looked good in the last game. Hopefully, these guys have a good season and teams are willing to give us 1st round pick at the trade deadline.

leafs have seriously paid the refs off this season. First game was pathetic (I still can't get over the snowshower penalty after seeing that in EVERY game so far, except an ACTUAL snowshower), today was...oh wow. Of courrrse they would get a penalty to get a 6 on 4 after a post-whistle scrum that was nothing. Of course Kessel can bulldoze Miller while leaf fans will complain and tweet endlessly (the twittersphere almost broke after our disallowed goal when Scrivens wasn't even touched) about how the Habs run goalies all the time. (Take a moment to consider how absurd that statement is.) Lupul on the disallowed would-have-been tying goal (good call on that at least) was standing deep in Miller's crease. Why doesn't he get a penalty for that, but White gets one on our disallowed goal? Sorry, cannot stand the leafs parade going on everywhere I go.

Habs better pick it the F up cuz we're going to lose ground to Ottawa, Boston, Buffalo and even the Leafs if we don't do well this week. Whatever you think about whether we're competing with top teams, doesn't matter, we need to consider every team - never know how it will play out. PK...this isn't funny.

Yup and next year is the last year of their contracts making them easier to move.

If Markov stays healthy and plays well, I don't see how you would move him for anything other than a huge overpayment. With Subban, Diaz, Emelin, Weber there now and Tinordi and Beaulieu on the horizon, you have got to have a skilled experienced D man to be the example and tutor for these young players.

There is no one else who can currently provide it and his skills, even if diminished, are in a small and lofty group in the NHL.

Agree with this.

I also think we will get out of tank-mentality (which has understandably descended upon us after that pathetic performance) once we:

- Get PK back
- Team gets back in NHL shape

and yes... I think it'll happen before it's too late. I am sooooo not into another season of misery and we don't have to tank to do well in this draft. We can make the playoffs and be good to go for the draft - it's deep enough.

This is a big IF. If this is dragging for a while, I am not surprised if PK asked for a trade. Markov played well but he look fragile. This season is not going to be easy. A lot of thing has to go right for us to have a chance at the playoff. Frankly, I do not see us making the playoff.

You really think that things are that bad between camps? Also, disagree with Markov looking fragile. You are super right about this season though.

I know it's a big IF, but I think most of us think that Bergevin will handle the situation appropriately. I know he's said many times that he's not going to act on emotion and will think about the future, not the next week or next year even, but long-term. Still, that makes me think even more that he'll do everything he can to make PK a Hab and have the money left over that he needs to pay the rising crop. He might have to break from his current offer, but there's a compromise in there to be had.

Poor Hartley, this team will end last in the league, they are that bad..

Have you seen the game between the Flames and the Ducks. I watched the 3rd period. As you said, they looked bad. The problem is that they looked better than our Habs.:shakehead

much better!

I get that we need CGY to suck, but from what I've seen, they might be a very capable team. ANA is also looking prettttty good right now. (Great for Koivu!)
