The purists will cringe but honestly can't wait to see a one off like that. Will be so exciting to watch, regardless of Habs not doing well.
Interesting that they now think the 7 bottom teams would have chance at 1st overall. Montreal instead would play a 3 game playoff

This sucks if it turns out to be true. I’d rather have a shot at 1st overall, instead of losing two straight games. If they would have cancelled the season one day later and Montreal lost to Buffalo they would be sitting at 7th last overall.

I think the more simpler approach if they're thinking of expanding the amount of teams eligible for the playoffs would be to take the top 10 teams in each conference instead of the top 12.

Keep the 3 division leaders as they currently are and just have the 2 wildcard teams and the next 2 teams below them in the conference standings (either based on total points or points %) and have a best 2 out of 3 playoff for the final 2 wildcard spots. Have the current #1 WC team play the 10th place team and the #2 WC team play the 9th place team.

So in the east with the current standings based on total points it would be Carolina vs NYR and CBJ vs NYI in a 2 out of 3 for the 2 WC spots and then the playoffs would continue as usual with normal playoff seeding. If going by points % instead (which would likely be the more fair way IMO due to some teams having played more games) it would then be Carolina vs Florida and CBJ vs NYI.

Also by going to 20 teams instead of 24 it would cut down on the number of players and staff being around the venues where these games would be played. Not sure why the NHL are even considering going to a 24 team playoff TBH.

There will be greater revenue from a 24-team playoff. IMO, they should let in all 31 teams.

Since I believe the NHL said a little while ago that it gets most of it's TV revenue from the playoffs this is the reason why they want 24 teams involved for these few extra games being broadcast on TV since there would be no fans in the buildings most likely.

I think everything is so much up in the air right now that the NHL doesn't really know which way would be best to finish out this season. Having less teams involved would likely be the safer route to help prevent any possible virus spread but having more teams involved would certainly help recover some of the revenue they'll lose.

Should be interesting to see how the NHL does eventually handle this in the near future.

There will be greater ratings on TV if more markets have their teams in the playoffs.

The safest option, however, is to cancel the season.

I 100% get the NHL wanting more teams involved but I don't feel teams like the Habs or Hawks deserve to be there considering where they were in the standings when the league suspended play which was also pointed out buy Lebrun in the TSN insider trading piece below. Also the costs of testing and sanitizing arenas and locker rooms which was brought up by Seravalli in the same TSN insider trading piece but the NHL doesn't seem concerned with that apparently. It seems though the idea of having 24 teams is gathering some traction according to Lebrun so we'll see.

Insider Trading: Sixteen, 20, 24-team playoff scenarios are all options - TSN.ca

One of the dumbest trades we could have possibly ever made. Not resigning Markov and sending away our potential future number one LD for a creampuff drama queen was as braindead as it gets.
The drama queen here is you, considering the way you describe Drouin and this trade.

I agree with 20 teams instead of 24 if they go straight to playoffs. Montreal, Chicago, and Arizona don’t deserve to be there. Then the NHL just has to make the decision between Florida and NYR.

The trade only makes sense if you're bringing back Radulov and signing Markov. As a direct response to the critical failure to only bringing in Ott, Martinsen and King when your team struggled to score and your goalie was having a historical season.

But it wasn't, it was a trade to replace Radulov.. and they lost Markov, and signed Alzner. Completing a trifecta of horrendous moves that gave us one of our worst seasons ever.
And Bergie boldly proclaimed that the defense was better, fun times.

Some Swedish and some Flyers hockey news:

Oscar Lindberg, former Rangers, Vegas, Ottawa and Zug in Switzerland has signed for Dynamo Moscow.

Oskar Lindblom is on his last treatments for his cancer and it looks very good so far according to the news. As I recall he had somewhat of a break through for the first half of the season. First of all I hope he recovers so he can live a full life, if he can come back to hockey, even better.

Flyers’ Oskar Lindblom to undergo final cancer treatments, making progress; Nolan Patrick ‘feeling better every day’

Uutta: Jokerit on yllätysvärväyksen jäljillä – NHL-lupaus Henrik Borgström lähellä Suomeen paluuta

Henrik Borgström is upset with Panthers management and is signing a 1 year contract with Jokerit in the KHL. This comes after Juho Lammikko left to play in the Liiga.

It's fun using Google translate since I only know few words in Finnish albeit being almost a half Finn. This line was interesting.

The Helsinki-born breeder of the Jokers would be the central striker needed by the KHL club line-up

Honestly have no excitement for this...none...
Would be great to watch a game, gives something to look forward to, but I don't know if I'll be able to stick with it for long without a crowd. The games with a crowd that isn't putting ambiance is usually pretty boring in and of itself, so...guess we will see.

Wow, if I actually had feelings I'd be hurt right now.
Not everyone can handle the actual truth..............there are some will tell us, he needs more time, it's a big thing in Montreal these days, where everyone just needs more time. Results mean nothing, moving the goalposts are the norm.

It will be like the third period of a home game when the habs are getting soundly beaten, morgue like.

I don't care about that guy throwing petty little shots at me, I have been called much worse here lol. Romanov will right the wrongs, we don't need to rebuild, we just need to pencil Taylor Hall and Alex Pietrangelo into our fictitious HF hab lineups and we are ready to win another cup.:sarcasm:

Hall Danault Gallagher, just wait a while, it will be posted lol.
