OT: The Other Sports Thread Part X

1 and 2) MLB expansion would be roughly 2029. 2031 season would be a realistic first season. A lot can change and Nashville will continue to grow as the dominant city of the south. Rich people love sports teams.

3) Across the river where the Titans stadium is could make sense. That whole area could be revitalized to be a sports entertainment district. It would be an incredible place for a ball park. There is also the possibility of North Nashville around Ted Rhodes Golf courses and TSU. Williamson County would be an option as well.

4) The Sounds would obviously be gone but again, we are talking 2031 at the earliest. Money would make this go away. Their contract with the Brewers ends in 2030.

5) Titans would still be #1 yes. The Titans had half their stadium funded by the public (largest in US history) and are ass every year. It’s wild that people are so against MLB in Nashville. It’s a matter of time, imo.

I mean I don't know anyone that watches baseball anymore outside of people who have kids that play, and I'm not sure just how much of it they watch when they can just play it on a Playstation.

If you look at the entire East Bank plan there is nowhere to put a baseball stadium nor is there any public money for a stadium. Honestly, it would be a crappy use of the land compared to what they already have planned from the horseshoe to the scrapyard.

Also, Metro Nashville owns the Sounds park. It's not paid off until 2043. That's a problem.

The North Nashville thing is not going to happen. Again, infrastructure (I live in Germantown and know the area quite well). And where in Will Co would you put it? It's one of the most NIMBY counties in the Southeast (I lived there for 18 years). They ain't gonna want a baseball stadium by the ag center or in Thompson's Station.

I was on the board of the Nashville Sports Council for a decade. Baseball is just not going to happen. UNLESS, there is a billionaire that wants to put up north of six billion dollars for what is now a regional sport. And it could happen. But, again, where do you put it? Hell, I can't even find anywhere to build a custom house in this town right now. Any land that is desirable is gone three seconds later. But, that's a topic for another forum/thread...

Where you put the stadium and how it is funded will be the hold up. I don’t know the answer but money talks. It will come down to a rich guy/group ponying up.

Why is North Nashville an absolute no? You say you’re Germantown which is right there. Looks like plenty of space over by the golf course? Obviously the cost of land would be insane but what about the infrastructure specifically?

The ingress/egress would be insane. The roads are awful. Yes, those could be fixed but the residents in the TSU/Bordeaux area would like them fixed now. There would need to be massive electrical and plumbing upgrades. And, most importantly, if you listen to leadership from the area the residents do not want a baseball park. They want affordable housing and sidewalks. The city has neglected the area.

I'm not anti-baseball. But from everything I have been told it's just not going to happen anytime soon, like 15-20 years, if ever. But, I also never thought I'd see, what was it, 150,000 downtown for a SCF or 300,000 for an NFL Draft. So, who knows

Williamson County would have to be similar to the amphitheater they put out there off 840/65.

You seem more in the know than me, for sure. Being told it’s not going to happen anytime soon reminds me of Rutherford county folk being told the landfill would be a golf course 10 years down the road. Just too many rumors and Nashville has grown so much that I see it happening in the next 5-10 years. I’m biased, I admit.

Not to mention if you put it in North Nashville you probably are cutting off a lot of people south of Nashville that might go to a game. Nashville may be growing but Rutherford counties growth and the areas around it makes Nashville look like it's growing at a snails pace.

In talking with other commercial RE colleagues in Nashville, it sounds like the major issue with the East Bank is infrastructure. It's apparently the reason for the delay on breaking ground on the Oracle campus and it's a major concern for the new stadium and inevitable multi-use development to follow.

My understanding is that there are only like 2 decent roadways that are in use within that entire area.
