OT: The OT Thread: Work sucks. Short work weeks don't. (Warning in post 368)

I love how some people can be confidently incorrect. I was out for a hike this morning with a couple of friends, and as their English skills aren’t that well off, so we were talking in Ojibwe. One woman heard three brown guys talking, so of course she felt like she had to say something. She confidently declared that if we’re gonna be in the US, we need to speak American.

This threw me off because there’s no language called “American”. So I just pointed at the International Bridge where the flags were and said “where you see those flags is the border. Which means this island we are on is in Canada, so we can speak whatever damn language we want to.” I then pointed out that the language we were speaking was thousands of years old and that she should mind her own business, before concluding with “have a good day sir” to her and caught up to my friends. The noises she was making after was hysterical because she had no idea how to react.
'Speak American' lol. It scares me these people vote. Of course, it's their right, but my lord has the education system failed us.

I can't talk too much smac, though. Once, when I was completely sober, I accidentally said some people in a movie were speaking Mexican. My friend still hasn't lived that one down.

It was one of those moments that as soon as I sai it, I know I f***ed up and would never hear the end of it.

"American" does exist as a language. It's commonly referred to as "Merican" and sometimes "cornbread."

Still better than french :biglaugh:

Eh, that’s up in the air. French is like a beginner’s Spanish, in that it sounds very flowery and happy, even if the person speaking it is really angry at the time.

Ojibwe sounds like a gangbang of German, Finnish, and Russian languages. With probably just as much alcoholism and way too many unnecessary vowels.

Do you guys think teasing is inappropriate flirting? I like to be witty with everyone I talk to at work- male or female. But I found out a nurse thought I had a crush on a nearly 60-year-old woman, and it peeved me a bit. I just turned 37 and let me tell you- I'm not trying to be an asshole- but my standards would be in the gutter if I were crushing on this 60-year-old woman.

I like some friendly banter. There's a nurse from England on my unit who is a beast with her banter. The stereotype checks out. She's one of my favorite people to interact with, but now I'm wondering if people think I have a crush on them or am crushing on other people when I get into some friendly banter with the opposite sex. Tbf, it appears damn near everyone on my unit is getting into friendly banter with each other, so it doesn't feel out of place.

I never cross the line into sexual jokes, and I've always pushed away any woman who tried to call me their 'work husband'. I talk smack to them like I would be friends, which is one of the reasons why I love working in healthcare because nurses are a witty bunch of people!

Flight from iceland was delayed and we missed our connecting flight. Stuck in Boston for the night and going to rent a car tomorrow. Other option is 845pm flight. **** JetBlue, btw.
Which airport were you scheduled to fly into?

That is so sad. Sport Science was always a fun watch.

Wow. You truly never know what people are going through. That's why it's important to practice kindness with others as much as possible.

'Lost his fight to depression' is just so sad. I just read he had a son and daughter. That's incredibly tragic. The demons must have been heavy if he left kids behind.

I had an awesome weekend of sun, fun, with Memorial Cup hockey and having a full 90 minute workout + 30 mins of yoga with a feast of sushi and lobsters right out of the cove Saturday night. This comes after a long winter and part of the spring recovering from injuries.

Spilling over with gratitude and appreciation, so I'm sharing. Good tidings to you Sabres fans, peace and contentment be with you all during the off-season.

That is sad. And I would also point out that not everyone has the wherewithal to get the help they need.

I listened to a podcast review of the Dark Side of the Ring episode that aired recently on Daffney. So many people loved her and tried to get to her to help, and she still felt so alone and isolated. Absolutely heartbreaking.

As a fellow Canadian, as fun as it is to make fun of the newfie accent, you gotta be hard to live there. It’s like the Canadian version of Hawaii, without all of the fun things that makes Hawaii tolerable.

As far as the injuries go tho, get well my dude. Injuries suck. Especially if they become long term ones

Trying out a new workout program this week.

I have been doing Street Parking (a CrossFit-like program) for almost 4 years.

I am trying out a more S&C type program called The Old Bull. I went to the HS weight room last night and got it in. Definitely feeling the different stimulus, in a good way, this morning.

The only downside is the time away from my wife in the evenings as I need to wait for the weight room to open up at 6pm for the days I cannot do the workout at home with the minimalist setup I have in my basement.

Today was a not so gentle reminder that my landscaping days should be behind me, lol. I helped a friend by putting cut sod into a wheelbarrow, hand bombing it into a trailer, then we hand bombed it out of the trailer at a friend's lot, shoveled a load of soil into too many wheelbarrow loads and dumped it around the fence line for what will become flowerbeds. ~Six hours of my life that I wish I could have back and will probably be moving slow for a couple days, lol.

I'm going to the NASCAR race this weekend and usually return with a sun tan or burn but it seems I will begin the trip with one or both of those so I'm really going to have to watch myself and keep up with the sunscreen.

Had applied for a job as a practice interview, since the salary was way below what I was making. Not only did I get an offer, but they offered me $8 more than the top end of their advertised range. Also 2 wfh days weekly. I wouldn't be starting until the 23rd, so I would still have some time off to get my brain in order and finish up the final steps on novel selling prep. Seems like it's going to be The Summer of George BGM
