OT: The OT Thread: Work sucks. Short work weeks don't. (Warning in post 368)

I love how some people can be confidently incorrect. I was out for a hike this morning with a couple of friends, and as their English skills aren’t that well off, so we were talking in Ojibwe. One woman heard three brown guys talking, so of course she felt like she had to say something. She confidently declared that if we’re gonna be in the US, we need to speak American.

This threw me off because there’s no language called “American”. So I just pointed at the International Bridge where the flags were and said “where you see those flags is the border. Which means this island we are on is in Canada, so we can speak whatever damn language we want to.” I then pointed out that the language we were speaking was thousands of years old and that she should mind her own business, before concluding with “have a good day sir” to her and caught up to my friends. The noises she was making after was hysterical because she had no idea how to react.
'Speak American' lol. It scares me these people vote. Of course, it's their right, but my lord has the education system failed us.

I can't talk too much smac, though. Once, when I was completely sober, I accidentally said some people in a movie were speaking Mexican. My friend still hasn't lived that one down.

It was one of those moments that as soon as I sai it, I know I f***ed up and would never hear the end of it.

"American" does exist as a language. It's commonly referred to as "Merican" and sometimes "cornbread."

Still better than french :biglaugh:

Eh, that’s up in the air. French is like a beginner’s Spanish, in that it sounds very flowery and happy, even if the person speaking it is really angry at the time.

Ojibwe sounds like a gangbang of German, Finnish, and Russian languages. With probably just as much alcoholism and way too many unnecessary vowels.

Do you guys think teasing is inappropriate flirting? I like to be witty with everyone I talk to at work- male or female. But I found out a nurse thought I had a crush on a nearly 60-year-old woman, and it peeved me a bit. I just turned 37 and let me tell you- I'm not trying to be an asshole- but my standards would be in the gutter if I were crushing on this 60-year-old woman.

I like some friendly banter. There's a nurse from England on my unit who is a beast with her banter. The stereotype checks out. She's one of my favorite people to interact with, but now I'm wondering if people think I have a crush on them or am crushing on other people when I get into some friendly banter with the opposite sex. Tbf, it appears damn near everyone on my unit is getting into friendly banter with each other, so it doesn't feel out of place.

I never cross the line into sexual jokes, and I've always pushed away any woman who tried to call me their 'work husband'. I talk smack to them like I would be friends, which is one of the reasons why I love working in healthcare because nurses are a witty bunch of people!
