OT: The OT Thread: Work sucks. Dogs don't. (Warning in post 368)

Years ago I had a road rage incident (rager at me) because when the person cut me off, I gave them the slow clap and an eye roll as they went by. I had signaled and was about a third into their lane when they shot the gap on another car in the right lane I'd just passed and zipped past me. Well... the driver didn't care for it and decided to break check me. I again gave them the applause to which they responded by drawing a large knife and brandishing it in their mirror and gesturing at me. I did what any reasonable human would do - pulled my tire iron out from under the passenger seat and offered it to him while telling him he was #1.

He stopped in the middle of the 219 by the bend where Berg Rd. goes overhead so I went around him on the shoulder telling him he was a fool. He piled back into his BMW, sped past me and got off at Ridge heading west.

Seriously it’s like watching someone being able to punch drywall but not wanting to cost themselves a bunch of money.
One of my mates who was a bouncer/doorman in Manchester back in the day and handled a lot of streetfights, said the best trick in his arsenal was a slap.

You punch a dude, it triggers a response in almost any guy that this is a fight and they hit back. You slap a guy and it triggers shock. "Did a guy just slap me?" He said it is enough time of shock to deal with the situation. For him that probably meant he got a hold of them and made them hurt so they don't even think of fighting back.

I flip people off with gusto all the time. At some point I'm expecting it to result in firearms being brandished. Bullpup trucks with extra lights, bumpkins driving badly, shitheads ignoring emergency vehicles...

There are some expats I've met over the years who really, really hate B'lo. Some wish there was some way to earn what they're earning elsewhere to return. Some wish there were advancements in infrastructure or housing or opportunity for others in both professional and personal manners. And some had really shitty experiences and got out.
This is the next level of composure I'm trying to reach. Ive hit a seriously high level of keeping a peaceful mind even during stressful times. There are mental tools I use to do this. I still have yet to reach complete zen mode because I still lose my shit when an asshole is behind the wheel and impacts my ride.

You're right, though, it can lead to some bad shit getting into drama on the road. Not worth the risk, honestly, but we're all human, so it's easy to get drawn into their pettiness.

My wife gets furious at me if I show an inch of anger on the road. Mostly because she sees incidents of people getting into road rage pissing contests in the ER and is convinced every driver has a gun. She may have been right in Florida, but I’m rather confident the gun in car rate is significantly lower by the Costco.

Our school district has new voting machines. As someone who works in R&D for a printer/copier/scanner company, it was really interesting. I am sure other people will just be annoyed by the new workflow.

I really hate how many "remote" jobs are actually "this is on-site with NO POSSIBILITY of remote"

THIS !!

I worked fully remote for 10+ years. Bought my house out in the boonies because I was assured "remote is the future!!!!!!!!" I was fully remote LONG before Covid.

Now, suddenly, remote is the devil's own work. And I'm stuck out in the middle of economic nowhere land with a 90+ minute commute if I wanted to go into Austin for a job.

And what's frustrating is how much more efficient I am working remotely. Like...win-win, corporate America.

And remote workers staying home made the commute for us in-person people much more efficient. Win-win-win. I miss my commute during 2020. It was awesome. 6am on Sunday morning type traffic
I know I’m probably in the minority but I don’t like remote work. It isn’t that I am more or less productive, I just don’t like mixing work and home. I feel like I’m constantly at work. Plus the routine of actually having to get ready to leave the house helps my mental health. I worked from home when I had to for Covid but even with my job being hybrid, I go to the office every day.

I hate when you go and try to have a conversation with HR or anybody really and you find they are working from home that day. I rather a 5 minute conversation than 16 back and forth emails over 3 days

Depends on the role and the individual. For me, it's delightful. For a former coworker who had the same title, it was torture. Ironically I'm the extrovert and he's the one on the spectrum and with social anxiety
