Started feeling like maybe the lawyer doesn't have my best interests in mind. His Yelp reviews are not great, and he immediately pushed for me to go to his most expensive representation package. Unfortunately I haven't found any other alternatives, so for the sake of my mental health, I think I'm just going to resign and never go back. It's a tough job market, but I don't really feel like I have much choice, and adding the stress of a lawsuit hanging over my head is not going to help.
find another lawyer? God knows there's plenty out there.

I have called around 25. The first one I called delayed for 6 weeks before saying "Oh, our caseload is too full." They referred me elsewhere and they were too full. I've called county bar association, individual offices, everything I can think of. The only other call back I got was from someone who represents employers in labor suits.
 
Apparently I'm now "Devoted" and I don't know how I feel about that.

Good plan. The only thing more miserable than a shitty job is a shitty, prolonged legal battle.

Cut your loses and move on.

Yes, expect a legal battle to drain your finances, beyond what you anticipate.

Those lawyer adds you see everywhere don't pay for themselves.

But more importantly, the emotional toll it takes on you and ultimately your family usually far outweighs whatever monetary compensation you might hope to achieve.

It sucks right now and you've been wronged but channel that energy into finding a new path in life. Good luck brother!
 
So I got drunk tonight, and then somehow ended up driving a couple of drunk girls home. I dunno how that happened.
I made those mistakes when I was younger. Now I stick to the beer an hour rule if I drive. Try to minimize those mistakes. DWI is the best case scenario if something goes wrong. We all know the worst case.

My dad has a couple DWIs. The last time he got caught he actually hopped out of the car and ran from the police! Of course, he got caught. He still cant drive, and it's severely impacting his dating life.

Also, he had to go to meetings where family members of those lost to drunk drivers spoke, and it's stuck with him ever since.

So, I can't really pass judgement, and Im sure you know the risks of it all. Just don't listen to those drunk girls next time! Sometimes, they're more headaches than theyre worth...even if that means passing up on getting laid, haha.

I worked fully remote for 10+ years. Bought my house out in the boonies because I was assured "remote is the future!!!!!!!!" I was fully remote LONG before Covid.

Now, suddenly, remote is the devil's own work. And I'm stuck out in the middle of economic nowhere land with a 90+ minute commute if I wanted to go into Austin for a job.

I worked fully remote for 10+ years. Bought my house out in the boonies because I was assured "remote is the future!!!!!!!!" I was fully remote LONG before Covid.

Now, suddenly, remote is the devil's own work. And I'm stuck out in the middle of economic nowhere land with a 90+ minute commute if I wanted to go into Austin for a job.

And what's frustrating is how much more efficient I am working remotely. Like...win-win, corporate America.

I "love" buying houses. Supposedly the prior owners have to disclose any major things to their real estate agent, and they have to tell you.

We have lots of water issues in our new house. It's bucketing down today and the garage has water running down the walls and dripping from the ceiling. It's under a membrane deck, so clearly we need to get that looked at. A number of windows and doors are not water tight. The roof at least seems OK.

The prior owners had tenants in for years but you cannot tell me that they didn't know about this and were never told. So either the real estate agent didnt tell us (seems unlikely as that's their livelihood for the sale of one house) or the prior owners are liars (seems more likely as they wanted rid of it). This stuff annoys me. We had it with our last house too. Rang a property lawyer with the last house and they just said "you are right, and it sucks, but you'll likely never be able prove the owners knew and you have to pay all my costs if you lose." So any spare money for the next few years is going into the maintenance on this house. We knew the house was a bit shit, but the state the garage is in should have been disclosed.

So I think I'm gonna watch the Jets play, play some PlayStation, draw/paint with my 10 year old boy and try to ignore the problem for today while the weather is miserable outside.

You need the New Zealand equivalent of Harbor Freight's big blue tarps. Get a big enough one and cover your garage roof best you can. Kick the can down the road a couple years until you have enough scratch to deal with it. Also gives you time to assess the issue. There could be "point source" leaks running down rafters, etc., where the supports for the deck penetrate to the lower floor, or the whole roof could be shot. Huge difference in the cost and difficulty of dealing with it. You don't know necessarily if the roof is okay if there is a membrane deck above it, unless you can get in the gap and inspect it. If it's a flat roof <shudder> you're SOL as the tarp solution won't do shit. Happy hunting!!!
