My ex and her current husband are leaving the country this weekend. They won't be back in North America for five months. And when they are, it won't be in the US.

I zipped up my hoodie, threw on my sunglasses and saw myself in the mirror. it was then that I realized that my medical leave attire could best be classified as unibomber chic.
Spain, Croatia, Scotland and then the Maritimes in Canada. I have the dog and responsibility of being the parent near our children. Again.

I haven’t really talked to them about it so from what I can tell, they’re gonna figure it out after they spend some time abroad. If something works out really well, they might stay in Spain.

I hope so. The youngest one needs to maintain residency in Florida to maintain her scholarships so it looks like if nothing else my permanent address is gonna be here for a few more years. I just wish the job market wasn’t terrible where I’m at, being made worse by various management agencies, no longer hiring, even temporarily. When I start thinking about it, my anxiety kicks and overdrive.
The kids (if they chose) would have an interesting destination to visit. Meanwhile, go be the good dad that you are.
I mean, we did take them to live abroad and they are both excellent travelers as a result.
I’m just so tired of the anxiety at this point.

Sorry to read this, Chain. Anxiety can be overwhelming. I dealt with it a lot during my separation. I also couldn't imagine living in Florida.
Just yesterday we had a code on our unit. It was a 21 year old kid. I came back from running an errand for someone on the unit, and the mom of the kid was being rolled off the unit in an office chair screaming "Not my baby. What happened?! That's my baby!", and that scene has been playing on repeat in my head over the past day. I don't think I've ever cried that much over something on the ICU. Just her...shrieks. Anyone who has had to witness a mother lose a son/daughter knows what I'm talking about.
So, something to talk to the therapist about, but I'm sure my anxiety heightens with traumatic moments like that. Tonight, I'll have a few whiskeys on the rocks, get a nice buzz, and...probably get another good cry in.
Good news is the kid survived. Our provider took it really hard. He felt a bit at fault feeling as if he missed some warning signs. I don't know how they do it. Those guys are built differently.

I am regretting letting my passport lapse. Didn’t have the money to renew. Trying to put that together and still not making enough to make ends meet means it isn’t happening soon.

4 applications sent to Ireland today. I'm at a huge disadvantage, of course, because I would need sponsorship, but also I have the advantage of being flexible in terms of geographic area in which to apply. Foot in the door.
Working in tech for a major bank here I often tell my guys in the stress of a high profile incident "it's only money, no one is dying" to help put things in perspective.
I have so much respect for those that work in industries where it really is life or death.
Where in Ireland? But for bad timing, I could be living there still. My wife and I were living in Germany, wanted a change and were planning to head to Ireland ... but it was 2008. Friends there told us to avoid it like the plague at that time.

I'll go literally anywhere at this point. A few years there and then move to where I want to be is basically the goal. I've got applications in for South Dublin, Galway, and Cork. Just need the foot in the door.
My wife lived and worked in Cork for six months just before we met. We drove round Ireland together on holiday and I loved the feel of Galway. That would've been my choice of landing spot ... but like you it would've depended where the work was.
Good luck. If you make it, go watch some rugby. They have a good national team ... that just can't seem to pull it all together for a World Cup.
