OT: The OT Thread | The Thread of Destiny

I don’t give a shit about American sports.

I’ve spent my entire life sort-of-following the NFL just because others do and I guess I’d be watching the Super Bowl if the Seahawks were in it, but I simply don’t get the NFL or the hype or why it’s so popular.

To me it’s a sport for people who don’t like sports and don’t like following the play. Ball in play for 11 minutes in 3 hours and 5 replays of every 5-second play. You can watch it half-assed and miss nothing.

Also the fact that every kickoff just gets kicked through the end zone pointlessly for decades now and they’ve done nothing to actually fix it and keep the ball in play to generate kick returns (probably the most exciting play in the sport) just bothers me to no end.

10000% agree. The commercials just kill any flow. People complain about actual football being "boring" but there are 0 commercials till halftime and the game has a real flow to it and you can really feel momentum shifts.

American football is just boring, corporate, and soulless. This game does not feel intense at all. Compare that to a elimination game in Hockey. It's not even in the same galaxy in terms of intensity.

I echo this and MSs comments

I was just excited to go the gym in the middle of day today because I knew it would be empty because of the superb owl.

I like sports with flow and momentum. Hockey has this. Soccer has this. Basketball has this (although I find it anticlimactic because of the way it lacks ‘big moments’). Baseball has a different sort of flow but it’s still a pace and a flow. Rugby has this.

NFL is just a series of broken moments that last 5 seconds each. It’s a whole lot of talking about a very small amount of stuff that’s happened and very little actually enjoying sport happening. I don’t get it. But it feels very appropriate that the Super Bowl is more about the commercials and halftime show than the actual game.

Football is a lot of strategy. More in the coaches hand than say hockey is.

Disappointed in this one sided game

Rugby is much more enjoyable. Awesome France England game this weekend

Knee tendonitis
Doesnt exist.

Its just a pro athletes invention to piss off a handful of HF posters.

Here is something we were studying this week end and I told the group the Demko situation and the HFBoards ChatGPT diagnosis story. Got a laugh out of the lecturer.

Would be interesting to know if they are using DN techniques to help keep the damaged popliteus tissue as elastic and mobile as possible.
