I've never really listened to country music or Beyoncé but I was curious to see what all the fuss was about with her "country" album and now I find myself listening to Cowboy Carter on repeat.

Did you watch the show Yellowstone? I'm convinced that's what planted the seed for me....I went down the Zack Bryan rabbit hole and never came out.

Haven’t seen Yellowstone. I’m not sure it’s available on the streaming services I subscribe to (all of which have been raising their fees lately). That Zack Branson tune is what I think of as country music. Catchy melody but not quite my cup of tea. Beyoncé’s album doesn’t fit so neatly in the genre. If it didn’t have Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson making brief appearances and a touch or two of “country twang”, I’d be hard pressed to call it “country”. If there are any hard core country fans out there, I’m curious as to what you think.

Rewatched Se7en on a whim. Such a terrific movie. Not for the first time, though, I marvel at how stupid Brad Pitt's character is.

the genre lines are have certainly become blurry over the years. lots of interesting collaborations too. Morgan Wallen pushing the envelope over the lines on his newest album (which is outstanding and worth a listen)

My dad joined the whole 'everyone moved to Alberta' for money phase during the 2000's. I moved and completed my post secondary there, which was fine. I left soon there after and my parents moved back in 2021.

I was born in Saskatchewan and my extended family also all hopped on that 'everyone moved to Alberta' train. My dad however chased the hippy life into the BC interior. Funny how he and my mom also eventually ended up in Alberta anyways. I'm the lone BC holdout.

I found Alberta boring, can't blame her.
But she got married and settled down with 3 kids, my older sister lives in San Francisco.

I mean if you're going to settle down and go all out with the family life, it's hard to find a more cost-effective city to do it than Winnipeg. So no judgements there. I've made the choice to try and build family roots in Vancouver, and that is bloody challenging.

Probably sacrilege to say around here, but I am not opposed in theory to move to Alberta. But there would have to be a very good job in waiting to tip the scales.

I did the opposite, I moved out of Alberta and never moving there again.
I am not married and no kids, so that's a big plus for my standing.
I for years have bashed that province and the city of Calgary on this forum, but that's a whole other issue in itself.

I don’t know nothing about Alberta, my grandma was from Shaunovan SK by way of Lachine PQ. Rolling Hills I believe was a bit of a misnomer but could be wrong.

My parents grew up in Castlegar, my moms claim to fame was she had to fill in for a babysitter one time - unsure when, but the kid was Travis Green.

Ok yeah that is pretty strange. I’m assuming you’ve been an expat for awhile? I’ve been the opposite, the city is wayyyy too busy for me. Idk outside of events and nature, I’ve come to despise living here.

I for years have bashed that province and the city of Calgary on this forum, but that's a whole other issue in itself.

Not many people know that one of Calgary's first and most influential city planners intended to build a European-style city with Hausmannian architecture, wide boulevards, and canals and the city's planning commission went as far as to ask him for a detailed plan, which he produced just prior to the outbreak of WW1. The war made large-scale public projects impossible, however, and the plan was never carried out.

By the end of the war public sentiment had shifted and become more practical-minded, so the city instead built a bunch of strip malls with liquor stores and porn shops and filled all the parking lots with dirty snow.

I don't know how much of an effect it has but outside of one weekend the temperature has typically been below 10 degrees C.
