You bring up an interesting topic, because my dad works for Telus and started as a power engineer and it was known as “BCTel”. Yknow, when you are young, how you want to work as a hero so you go firefighter or cop. I just wanted to be my dad. He worked on Willingdon and we called it “the drum”.

One time they were filming for the X Files and they demanded my dad move his truck but he was already working so he told them to shove it I guess lol. f*** if I can recall what it looks like. Another good one is when he went searching for that golden skull thing up near Nicola Valley or something, he claims he was off by one river, the next one over had it. He came back with poison oak rashes all over his legs.

I wonder if the younger generation knows what DOS is?

Oh man. For what I do know, I have the opposite of Asperger’s or something I suck with computers. I am aware of DOS, I know what OS stands for thanks to failing computer science twice in college. I swear I try so hard to understand it but I always end up with that 1000 yard stare.

It’s kind of weird when you get old enough the years start going by as fast as months used to. I’m only 30 but I remember floppies, of course. And dial-up!

I already burnt away most of my 20s trying to figure shit out...so guess I spent my mid-life crisis a bit early I hope...hehe...

Yeah, my dad's given me some advice on the idea of consultation fees, for example. You know how much money I have saved since I moved out? It would shock you. I'm not gonna say how it would, but it would. Hmmm...where do you live and are you aware how much your property costs? I feel like you already do, but like 3 years ago a relative of mine was not aware how much his did until his friends sold their house. He sold it for north, well north, of a million. That's about as much I want to talk housing for now I think.

I definitely feel that last sentence to my very core. All my parents and adults (I'm sure everyone goes through this) always said "my look how you've grown, time flies", I always thought "WTF are you talking about, I saw you a year ago. That's forever ago.", which makes completely sense when a year is 1/8th of your entire life experience. I graduated 13 years ago. That's how long I was in school and I can not expound to those younger than me, just how quick life moves from whatever age you are and how different each of those 13 years feel. If you think I'm crazy, think back to this comment when you go "how the f*** did I graduate 2-10 years ago?" That's when it happened for me.

Property values, my dad's, he is still kicking close to 100 now, he paid 2200.00 bucks for a world war two house on a third of an acre in South Van. A few blocks from the Skytrain.
Property to be sold soon, with the new bylaw allowance there can be six units of housing on that chunk of land.
Ought to be interesting.

Every fall, my dad would rake the leaves in our yard into these big black garbage bags, some of them were quite the shape of a spider's leg. Finally making the move back home to Vancouver after 7 years in Australia. A bit bittersweet as I have really come to love my life in Australia but feel the need to be closer to family and my aging parents. Such is life - tough decisions with no right answers

I can relate to this. Been feeling the calling for a while to move to Alberta to be closer to my parents who are aging and struggling. I would truck them to the Lower Mainland in an instant if I could afford it. Seems nearly impossible to make that decision though as my son has significant medical issues and all of his care and specialists are based here. My wife does not want to move to Alberta. Her family is also from China and there's something to be said about having that proximity in Vancouver. Since the diplomatic relations fell apart the cross Pacific flights have dried up and the direct connections to Calgary are gone.

My parents moved back to Winnipeg from Calgary, as there isn't much there anymore for them. Both are retired and are back there helping my sister raise my niece and nephew. I'm a plane ride away back to the Peg, my other sister lives in California.

Lots of families seem to be pretty spread out. Glad to hear your folks are able to help your sister. My parents aren't able to help with their grandson. I admit to having mixed feelings about that.

My dad joined the whole 'everyone moved to Alberta' for money phase during the 2000's. I moved and completed my post secondary there, which was fine. I left soon there after and my parents moved back in 2021.

Both of my sisters were not gonna move to Alberta, called it a boring province.
Once my older sister moved to California and my other sister settled in Winnipeg, there was no point of staying in Alberta.
