I haven't been on a plane since pre-pandemic times.

I have a trip to Nebraska this summer and have my plane tickets purchased. I am starting to wonder if I need to ask my pilot friend if these events really are happening more frequently over the past couple of months or it is just the algorithm trying to trigger people for the engagement.
I'd assume it's still incredibly rare to be involved in a crazy crash. I'd wager it's still safer than driving. I'd be curious what your friend says. Keep us updated!

Nebraska is a fly OVER state, not sure why you are landing there.

I think the incident in DC + the cutbacks at FAA has brought it in focus a bit more so now every air traffic 'issue' gets a headline nationally. I believe the # of incidents is on par with last year.

There was a total of 689 serious injuries in US air travel from 2002 to 2022, an average of 33 per year. In that same time, 48 million people were hurt in passenger vehicles on US highways — that’s approximately 2.3 million per year.

Yep, the last commuter crash in the continental US was in Amherst when Flight 3407 crashed in February of 2009. That's 16 years.

Not sure if there are UFC fans around. Disappointing to see Hooker had to pull out of the fight against Gaethje. That could've been a war and almost any fight with those two is worth watching.

I'm having a low-level breakdown. We have sold our home, and will move out in two months ... but we have nowhere to move to yet. I don't necessarily mind that, but where we want to buy is high demand and has people throwing money at houses to get them. I don't want to be sucked into that shit, but the longer we look for houses and dont come to an agreement with a seller, the more my panic will grow.

Ummm... why would you sell before having somewhere to go? I don't think I could do that. I did have a situation where I had a living destination situation - lost an apartment because my ex hadn't cleared my part of her old business debt as was part of our divorce agreement so my credit check came back below their approval level right as I was supposed to leave university housing. That lead to a month of chaos, I can tell you. Never, never again.
