I haven't been on a plane since pre-pandemic times.

I have a trip to Nebraska this summer and have my plane tickets purchased. I am starting to wonder if I need to ask my pilot friend if these events really are happening more frequently over the past couple of months or it is just the algorithm trying to trigger people for the engagement.
I'd assume it's still incredibly rare to be involved in a crazy crash. I'd wager it's still safer than driving. I'd be curious what your friend says. Keep us updated!

Nebraska is a fly OVER state, not sure why you are landing there.

I think the incident in DC + the cutbacks at FAA has brought it in focus a bit more so now every air traffic 'issue' gets a headline nationally. I believe the # of incidents is on par with last year.

There was a total of 689 serious injuries in US air travel from 2002 to 2022, an average of 33 per year. In that same time, 48 million people were hurt in passenger vehicles on US highways — that’s approximately 2.3 million per year.
