Post-Game Talk: The only thing in the mix, are the line combos... Habs lose to Capitals.

You also end up in situations where a forward, like Caufield, ends up having to protect the front of the net, with the obvious expected result.

I understand the reasons why MSL wants this system, but he needs to sit down with his players individually and have a good talk with them. There are likely many that are confused about what to do defensively.
Absolutely I was furious...

I have no idea what the best plan is going forward. The powerplay being somewhat successful is a nice surprise, but everything else has been pretty underwhelming. I'm confident our offense will fine moving forward, adding Demidov and Laine should give us a decent boost next season.

I'd give St. Louis until the end of the year and compare the team's 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters of the season to see if he can get some progression going on the defensive end, if not I'd have him gone come April.

At the deadline I'd look to move Matheson since he's filling the same role we want Hutson to fill. And I'd move out Savard since he'll be ancient once we're actually contending.

Then in the offseason we'd ideally target a defensively responsible 2nd pair guy for the right and left sides in the 25-30 year old range, and potentially a 2C depending on how Dach's season pans out.
There's plenty of stuff left to iron out before next season starts, but they better use this time to scout out some potential pieces to add going forward.

What game is that? Cornhole? 😂
😏

Either way, but if the veterans are playing like cakes, they need to be replaced by youngsters. Send Dvorak to the AHL until the waivers come through, let one of the Struble - Xhekaj duo be on paper in the AHL if the others can't. Other players can play on the PK.

Worst D and GAA in the league !!!!!!

May we have Harris and Kovy back… and even Allen. ???

And do what for a veteran d? Can't move Matheson and Savard unless they add another vet d.

The team doesn't need more young players. It needs veterans that know what the hell they're doing. Management has traded all of the good ones and are left with a pile of dung, none of which know what they're doing defensively save Evans and Savard. Rebuilds can become a real issue if you don't surround your young players.

I'd look to add a defensively minded right and left shot defenseman this offseason. Both somewhere in the 25-30 year old range. We need some solid, experienced guys on the backend that'll actually be useful when our window opens.

This is the only thing that matters right now.

Once our offense starts showing it is strong enough to contend for playoffs with room for additional growth, we will be in a position to trade futures to round out the D core. We already have Guhle and Hutson + a ton of suspects for the bottom pair so it shouldn't be too difficult to grab 2 assorted top 4 veteran defensemen from tanking teams to complete the unit. That assuming the close to worst case scenario where none of Reinbacher and our current prospects shows a capacity to play in the top 4 in the next 2 seasons.

In the meantime, the best thing to do is tanking for picks (some like to call it building culture). The only moves that make sense from management's perspective are lateral moves that will improve team morale without mortgaging the future nor gaining too many useless ranks in the standings.

Rebuilds are painful. We still have a long way to go.

Our play in our own end is atrocious. Would like to see us play a simple box+1 zone structure. Not sure MSL would swallow his ego though and change his stripes. I thought man-to-man left the game in the 90s. It's so easy to exploit.

Do you think Hughes will be able to get someone in before the next game? Besides, a roster isn't rubber, he needs to get rid of someone before he trades another.

wow, these train wrecks, huh?

hey, ya think we can see some new break out schemes? maybe a practice on how to beat an aggressive forecheck?

Slaf looked good +/- I liked his strength on the boards & his play making IQ is processing fast this year.

I can, a pissed off Anderson is a monster and can throw with anyone in this league. He hates Wilson too, going way back, to when Wilson dropped him early in his career, and then Wilson hiding and running from him last year (and before).

Look at when Anderson got mad and worked Matthieu Olivier a couple of years ago when he was on the Preds. Ate him up and spit him out… if we could figure out to get him angrier more often, he’d be a weapon.
