Who wins?

Check his record and then check the shitty defense and goaltending we have.
Also check our record before he joined.
Also, name me one Oilers coach in the last 30 yrs who was a clear upgrade.

Just because he doesn't mouth off doesn't make him dumb. Excuses to bash him are running low now that Skinner is getting some ice time..

Finally name me one coach who would be a clear upgrade over him and reasons why...
Imo even if we were swept Knoblauch would be safe. He's the best coach we've had in a very long time. I'd say since MacT's 2006 performance

Love this time of year when oiler fans try to convince other oiler fans that we suck and have no shot in the playoffs lol
I'm just catching up in the thread and stopped right at your post. The negative energy in this thread is insane, straight up insane. "Oilers are huge underdogs" "Oilers are likely losing this series" etc. etc.
Get outta here with that noise. I consider myself to be a realist or maybe err slightly on the optimistic side and there's no freaking way you ever count out a McDavid/Draisaitl led team in any series ever especially a McDavid and Draisaitl that will be well rested going into the playoffs unlike other years and a McDavid and Draisaitl led team that knows people including their own fans have given up on them. I'm not giving up on them, it;ll be a tough series especially without Ekholm but they're winning this f***ing series, enough of this negative shit it's embarrassing.

The Oilers should be able to win the first series against LA. That wouldn't be earth shattering.

Watching the AV's and how brilliantly Blackwood played last night in his first playoff game was sobering. If only because I've never seen an Oilers goalie play that well in a playoff game since Roloson or Cujo. That good. Dallas were the better team last night despite not having Heiskanen or Robertson. They dominated he third. Mackenzie was making one fantastic stop after another and then AV's go and score the 3-1 goal, game over.
Regardless what happens in this round shit gets real in 2nd and 3rd Rd. This year won't be any easier clubs like Vancouver.

So now the AV's have goaltending. Bad news to the conference.
The Avs are the best team in the league. They were already a Cup contender then added Nelson, Coyle and Nichushkin. This is 2022 Colorado all over again. I don't see who can match their combination of high end talent, overall team speed and depth now. Scary team

Solution is quite simple. Don’t engage with them, as they just want to drag you down to their level and are looking for attention. Or put them on ignore. My version of the thread is actually very reasonable, so I must have the right guys on ignore.

Stauffer flat out said that's what happened. Is that good enough for you?
I highly doubt Stauffer said management told the coaching staff to split 97 and 29 but I’d love for you to provide the proof to your claim.

I think it’s bullshit though because those types of conversations aren’t had in the media. No management team is undermining their head coach by telling media they forced lineup decisions on the HC and no coaching staff is telling media that they got told how to run their bench.

I agree with this, and it's why the Kings are the underdogs against us now. Colorado is a great contender because of talent. They show that regular season results don't matter a ton. For all our problems and injuries, we only finished one point behind the Avs. The regular season hot streak the Kings and Blues had is really polluting a lot of thinking about these series

It is odd that Stauffer would say that. I would say that it isn't necessarily overreach if true however. Just like how the coach will often have input in GM moves, maybe GMs and Presidents can have input on coaching. I could see that happening, and for Bowman and Jackson pushing hard for these roster decisions. They are hockey minds who have value in that way too. I bet it did happen, but it wasn't forcing Knoblauch but just convincing him about a change. Maybe it came with an assurance that if the Oilers fell in the standings, Bowman and Jackson wouldn't hold it against him. Same for scratching guys to rest up or heal longer

It's not my problem that you need proof to believe it. He said it during the intermission of a telecast, go look for it yourself or assume it didn't happen. IDC

A whole season has gone by and he still doesn’t know his lines
Yes, because he had the whole season with this group of players at full health.
The guy should know by now where walman, klingberg, frederic etc should fit.

We should just fire him already before game 1 and get a real coach.

He said it during the intermission of one of the games recently. He said there were high level discussions on the topic and that management felt it was more conducive to team success if they were split up.
