What happened to Hagelin? Left the game late in the 3rd holding his face.

Hope Hagelin is okay. Henrik is playing well. Nash quietly has played well.

Hoping Stepan gets a look tomorrow over Wheeler who was not impressive

Hagelin got walloped in the face. It looked like he was holding his mouth skating off. He was bleeding according to Pierre McGuire. It was just about the last minute of the game--so there wasn't going to be much information on a 3rd/4th line Swedish forward. A lot more worry over Zetterberg. If I were a Red Wing fan I would not be happy either. Sounds like he's ****ed with a herniated disc in his back. Anyway it's probably just a cut or a tooth or two for Hagelin.

Yes, he did.

He only got 4:10 of ice time, but he did play.

Not trying to be a jerk, but did you watch the game? The announcers mentioned him a couple times.

Stepan and Faulk were the scratches against Slovakia.

I watched the game, yes. I didn't pay much attention in the third, but I watched the first two periods pretty closely.

I honestly didn't see him :dunno: Him playing 4:10 explains a lot. No one is going to perform in 4 minutes.

sounds like Zetterberg had this herniated disc already and probably should not have been playing, even in Detroit. missed 11 games this season with it and probably tried to soldier through for a chance at playing in the Olympics when he probably should have gotten this surgery months ago.

What happened to Belarus anyways? They used to be a staple in the top tourneys.

I'll answer this one seriously. They used to the the best of the worst. In the last decade, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, and Latvia have all made major strides in their hockey programs. Especially Switzerland.

There were many rumors out at the time that Lauri Korpikoski was unhappy w/ his playing time, and utilization by the coach.

His agent even used the KHL as leverage in RFA negotiations:

http://www.blueseatblogs.com/2009/07/08/korpikoski-to-the-khl-maybe/

At first glance, the contract negotiations between Sather and Korpikoski looked like Glen trying to lowball him (and all RFAs). Superior KHL offer of potentially 1.5 million, and Sather qualifying Lauri at 1.03 million.

BUT, when Korpikoski was traded to Phoenix, he signed a deal worth 700k a season, a 284k pay cut. Take salary out of the equation, Korpikoski was unhappy with his playing time and responsibilities in NYC. Blame that on the coach, management, or who ever, but that was the case.

Stepan does not deserve to play. He's clearly the 5th best center on the team. The extra forward spot should be reserved for a winger. It's easier to rotate a winger in and out of the lines than it is for a center.

Brooks Orpik sucks. Still can't believe he is on the team over Erik Johnson. Well actually I can believe it, cause Bylsma is the coach, but I don't like it.

Looking at the Detroit board today--something I don't do too much of--I got the idea he's had a back problem for at least a few years and he's played through the pain but apparently this time it's worse than it's ever been. Sounds to me like he really could have used the two weeks + to rest it.

FINAL Men's #Hockey #SVKvSLO:
Slovenia wins their 1st ever hockey competition in the Olympics 3-1 over SVK.
#Sochi2014

Much congrats to the people of Slovenia.

In the battle of Slovs, Enia beats Akia 3-1. That's kinda surprising, but on the other hand really shows that Slovakia is clearly behind Switzerland at the moment. They've lost against both Austria and Slovenia within a year's time now. That's bad. It's a shame, because Slovakia is a pretty hockey crazy country.
