I have no problem with clearing cap where it makes sense. My understanding, though, has always been that if you restructure today you're pushing a cap-hit further down the line and I don't support that if the player isn't in the team's longterm plans. You extend Josh. You extend Benford. You cut Von. You restructure Dawkins. All of that makes sense to me.

First, McDermott is getting asked about Coleman and Kincaid at the combine. He didn’t bring them up. Second, he mentioned the defensive line and bringing in key defensive coaches. That’s almost always a precursor to changes. Third, the Bills special teams made key errors this season which needed to be fixed.
Prior to the Kincaid and Coleman picks, LOTS of fans and pundits were calling on Beane to give Allen playmakers. And he did. Now he’s got to address the defense.
You’re railing against one of the most successful coaches in Bills history and currently in the NFL. It’s old. You should stick to Pegula and Adams where you’ve got more to work with.

I doubt a RB that was outside the top 15 in rushing attempts and rushing yards in 2024 is that shiny to Jerrah.

He also said Bernard wasn't as good as many talk about, Cole Bishop needs to put in work this offseason like Coleman, and they need to be a lot better on the DL and that is why he made some of the coaching hires he did.

When you restructure guys that you do not expect to be on the roster for 3+ more seasons, that is the definition of a poor cap move.
The bill for the bonus payments does eventually come due one year. But, you can manage it like last year where they had $70M in dead cap and made it to the AFC Championship game.

Of the names out there on the trade market, you have similar situations age and contract-wise for everyone but Micah Parsons. And Parsons might be the least likely guy to get traded.
Garrett turns 30yo on December 29th.
Crosby turns 28yo in August.
Hendrickson is 30yo and turns 31 in early December.
And Allen just turned 30yo in January.
The main reason I can see Washington shopping Allen is because he only played in 8 regular season games in 2024. They likely are skittish about his contract ask given that fact.
He was a 700+ snap per year guy from his 2nd year in the NFL in 2018 through 2023 and then he was only on the field for them for 301 snaps last year.
It's all about whether that was a fluke or not...

I.E. Why trade for Garrett that cost 2+ first rounders and 30M a year when we could draft a first round graded linemen? Sure, that doesn't mean they turn into Garrett but still. Why trade for Garrett when you could trade for a younger Crosby? Gotta use the watered down market as leverage.
This is unfortunate for a team trading the asset. poor Cleveland.

Between all the DTs in the draft and the d-lineman rumored to be traded, I'd have to say the universe might be lining up perfectly for Buffalo.
Anyone want to attempt a tier list of the players mentioned on the trade block? Crosby vs Garrett is interesting. Crosby gives you longevity while Garrett gives you a higher peak.
What's that = on the cap hit. Seems like it would be very low. Maybe a good sign some of these guys are going to chose staying here over making more money. The perks of being a contender the last 5 years.

The NFL cap hits vary so much from year to year as opposed to the AAV approach of the NFL.
We will wait and see what Spotrac and Over The Cap report as the final structure of the deal. It usually takes a few days for those details to emerge.
It will be interesting to see what the actual numbers look like with the deal being reported as up to $60M total. How much work is that "up to" doing will be very interesting.
Getting the married guy who drives a Subaru to take less than top of the market money is unsurprising.

Cleveland doesn't have to trade him. Especially with their cap troubles and all the dead cap that a Garrett trade will accelerate. They can hold out until some team makes them an offer they can't refuse.

That Shakir deal is absolutely fantastic for us. $15M AAV is way under what I thought he'd get -- I thought his contract would push close to $20M AAV.
