I wonder if Shawne Merriman sold him on it. That dude is all love about playing in Buffalo and he didn’t even do it when they were good. You’d think that he’d be a guy Bosa knows given the Chargers organizational connection…and both being big time D players in their franchise history.

Of course…it’s also probably just as easy as debating playing with a contender or your brother or retiring with the Dolphins.

I’d still feel better if we add, before the draft, a veteran DT that can take up space, a second tier cheap CB that they believe in, and veteran safety depth.

I don’t expect all that, but that would be nice!

Von was at some insane percentage like 18 something. But he only played on third and for sure throwing it downs so it needs an asterisk. Like a quarter of the defensive snaps. If you never have to do anything but rush along with the rest of the line and maybe a blitzes…your number is going to be high. Even injured Bosa played 40 something percent of snaps that weren’t all 3rd and throwing.

Exciting move. If Babich and McD are smart in how they deploy him, limiting his reps within our rotation, he could be a home run. I think this opens up the possibility of taking a speed WR in the 2nd now, which is a fun bonus.

He's been very good as recently as...last year. Hoping he can make our pass rush fearsome again.

Beane's history has usually been to ensure that needs are minimally met through FA ever since the team got good. The only time we went in with a clear need was CB2 (Elam) and WR (Coleman). Every other year it's just been about getting BPA because the floor at each position was already set. I would be shocked if he didn't pick up a vet CB (I'm on the record as predicting Levi Wallace or more likely Dane Jackson) and another DT before the draft.

Would you have preferred Von back on a reworked deal for another season, or this move?

I guess this signing means Hendrickson’s not coming here, which sucks. Especially if the rumors were true that he’d cost a 2nd+.

Maybe the team is higher up on Solomon than I am. I’m iffy on this signing. Blind optimism as a fan, but was hoping for so much more like I’m pretty certain most of us were when we heard the names available at edge this offseason.

Maybe we end up with a combination of Tyleik, Harmon, Grant, Green, Swinson, Princely, or Landon Jackson with our first 2 picks this draft. That’ll make me feel more at ease about the dline.

The Buffalo Bills and edge rusher Joey Bosa agreed to terms on a one-year, $12.6 million deal, league sources told The Athletic on Tuesday, edging out the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins for his services.
 
In a vacuum, I like the Bosa diceroll. The upside of him potentially getting back to what he was in 2023 is very high. And the risk of a one year deal is low.

Moreover, in a way, Bosa/Hoecht is like a supercharged version of Miller/Epenesa opposite Rousseau. Both tandems feature a high upside older vet paired with a high floor younger vet who's here to help eat snaps. Except Bosa is younger than Von, and Hoecht is more flexible than Epenesa.

That said, I'm not sure I'm understanding how the salary cap math is mathin' here. And I'm a bit concerned about just how much money we're going to have to push forward to make ourselves cap compliant. But I feel like there's too much that's unclear about what these deals look like to be overly concerned about it just yet.
