Kings... You disappoint me so, so much.

I'm losing my previously-unwavering faith in them edging out one of Calgary or Winnipeg for a Playoff spot. Vancouver and Minny are pretty much out of reach now.

Paul Maurice: Please, for the love of God, find some way to screw this up. If you ever loved the Canes you would do this for their fans.

I was happy with either result. Either the Kings lost, securing Minnesota's playoff spot a bit more, or the Hawks lost, allowing Minnesota the chance to take a divisional spot.

The latter would have been preferable, but eh...

The Kings are doing this on purpose, right?

They're just getting their backs as far against the wall as possible before turning it up, right?

Kings are just being good guys, holding that pick right around #15 for us.

Watch the Kings just miss the playoffs, and with their 1% Lottery chance, win the lottery. Then, with McDavid they win the cup next year so the Canes end up picking 6th this year and 30th next year.

I can't help but think that trade was a massive risk, having the caveat of LA making the playoffs. Obviously I have no idea what other offers were made and/or refused, but...

Surely they could have gotten a no-risk 1st rounder from another team? Maybe without the prospect?

Maybe I'm just impatient...

I don't see how an extra first next year is a problem. They're not not getting the pick. Even if it's delayed and the Kings are better, maybe Francis flips it for his own Sekera-type pickup. It's still a very solid trade regardless of when the pick is.

In my sarcastic remark above, I was by no means saying it was a bad trade or a problem. We gave up a high 2nd round pick for Sekera (and dumped McBain) and in return got 1.5 years of his use, and got a mid-late round 1st and McKeown. Even if it's a late 1st next year, it's still a decent trade, even if I'd prefer a mid round pick this year to be what the Canes receive.

Things look rough after the last few days, but it's not that bad. They just need to make up two points on Winnipeg over the last six games since they hold the tie breaker pretty easily. They just need to win their game in hand of Calgary and then beat them head to head to get to where they need to pass Calgary. Hopefully they will play well with their backs against the wall like they usually have recently. Winnipeg's schedule looks fairly difficult with a solid Colorado team being their easiest game left. And of huge importance is that Winnipeg and Calgary play each other the last game. Guaranteed to have a chance to make up at least a point and possibly two on someone. LA has a few tough games left too, but at least they get Edmonton twice and a head to head with Calgary.

Seems like a win-win. If Kings are bad enough to miss the playoffs, the possibilities for next year seem even better, no?

They are not a team on the rise.

I think people are just nervous because of the cups, but really, winning it twice seems more like an odd anomaly than anything else.

I'd rather have the pick this year because of the draft and just having the asset sooner, but I agree with the sentiment that they are just as likely to be a bubble team next year as be a powerhouse. If it ends up being a 1st next year, even a late one, it's still a solid trade. I think it was one of two things making that trade. Either nobody else stepped up and offered a 1st and a good prospect, or Francis made a calculated risk that he might get a mid 1st rounder in a good draft this year, or worst case, some kind of 1st next year. I can't get mad at that. It's doubtful that any other 1st he could have gotten had the potential to be that high, so I like the gamble okay.

This Draft has been compared to 2003 where guys like Parise, Getzlaf, Burns, Kesler, and Richards were all 15-30 picks. I really like what I have seen and read about guys in that range: Kylington, Zacha, Konecny, Merkley, Connor, Meier, Svechnikov, etc. A ton of high-end prospects there.

I want one of those.

NYR pulls out a regulation win vs. Winnipeg. Great news for LA's Playoff chances.

Cool thread. It's nerve-wracking to be a Kings fan during the regular season. They never make it easy. Plus, Doughty can't score a PP goal to save his life. Some fans are asking McBain to be put in just for the power play because we seem to score when he's on one of the power play units. And now we're waiting nervously for Sekera injury news.

Calgary has some crazy-mad determination to make the playoffs and they will.not.be.denied. So it's Winnipeg vs L.A., death match.

It's our band's last kick at the can before we lose core members of the leadership group.

Calgary, AB

2 points back of Siberia with a game in hand in the Wild Card, 3 back from Calgary, also with a game in hand for the Pacific.

Nothing super notable game wise today but Colorado does play at San Jose, so I guess I'll pull for not a 3 point game, which means it'll probably happen, don't think it'll affect much either way though.

As far as we go however, Toronto plays Buffalo and the Edmontons are also playing, so the bottom of the standings have some potential to move around tonite us us and Arizona off.

Toronto can move within 1 point of Carolina tonight.

#doyoubelieve

I don't believe. Unfortunately, Leafs will have 2 more games played and after tonight, have Boston, Ottawa (both of who are battling for a playoff spot), Columbus who is 9-1-0 in their last 10 and Montreal, who always like to beat Toronto.

Ain't gonna happen.

Gonna happen, but here is my pessimistic approach to it. Toronto passes us in the standings. Toronto wins the draft lottery and we get bumped down to the 5 spot anyways. The city of Toronto goes crazy by winning the draft lottery. Toronto Drafts McDavid. McDavid plays his first 2 games in Toronto scoring 4 goals and 3 assists in those games. Toronto fans lose them selves after what's happening. Toronto is so happy with McDavid that he gets elected as mayor of Toronto (Side note: Do they even have Mayors in Canada?)

I take it you haven't watched any news over the past few years of you have to ask that.

Toronto shouldn't win McDavid just for Rob Ford's well-being. If he parties like he does when the Leafs are bad, I can't imagine what he'll do when the Leafs are good.
