Tribute The Official "Fire Tortorella" Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

They will try 100% to get free agents this summer. This is the 3rd off season for Briere and the team is the same. Whether they get them is to be determined.

That's my biggest concern, they blow cap space this summer when there will potentially be better players to sign in 2026...Flyers always 1 year too late or early when trying to build a team.

No top end free agent is coming here no matter this or next summer. Those types will get paid no matter what and where they go. You may get say like a Brock Nelson you may get with an overpay 8-year retirement contract. Would a Bennet who has already won wan this payday or will he take few million or more less per year to stay in Florida? If he would come here he clearly has little desire to want to win.

Keeping Torts also hurts any chance they may have to get one. Only the Laughton and Poelig types love him.

Nothing changes until Clarke Barber Holmgren et al are removed and then every front office position is replaced. From trainers to marketing to scouts to coaches to the top brass. Especially all the VP’s of whatever. Maybe Comcast gets a third chance to pick the guy in charge and gets it right but that’s the last chance before the NHL should step in and force Comcast to sell due to gross incompetence.

Maybe force the team to move and change its name and give Philly a new expansion team that retains the name. Get rid of all the team records and the 74/75 cup nostalgia and the history.

I’m glad they are losing. I hate this Organization.

It makes me chuckle when I hear the word "rebuild" in reference to this franchise. Rebuild from what? Rebuild from when? This franchise should be renamed and they should be forever known as the "Forth-Liners", because that is what they seem to be trying to achieve. A team of muckers and grinders without any offensive talent whatsoever!
By moving Tortorella into a FO position is a way to ensure further ineptitude as an organisation. They could win the draft lottery and choose a player with marginal talent as long as they're two-way players. The Flyers will attempt to sign a talented FA player(s) in the upcoming off season, but as long as this franchise is trusting the Tort's methods of coaching, they will be destined to remain the same, with no hope in sight.

100% on point...

Ponder who these morons would even hire to replace Tortorella. Not that I don’t want him gone too. But we could get an absolute laugher hire, par for the course with every decision they make. This interests me.
We all know it’s gonna be Lappy. The real joke is going to be the brass trying to convince the fan base that after an exhaustive search and interviewing a large number of people, he was the best candidate for the job.

Tocchet has an option to bounce this year no?

Him or Shaw would be my choices. Who I think they choose.

I would not be a fan of Tocchet. His reputation is better than his substance.

NINE years as HC in the NHL... 2x made play-offs... 1x past first round.

And has had drama with players.

Kirk MacDonald was technically a Flyers employee I guess? He is about the only person affiliated with Flyers in any way I would want... and tbh would rather have him as an AC for PP as he would not be in my top ~5-10 HC options.

Tocchet is trash, but they would have interest can be sure of that.

I don’t really know any coaching candidates right now.

I liked Gronborg a few years back. Don’t know if he’s still a good option.

Dave Scott was a big fan of Tocchet

I was never a Gronborg fan.

I like:

David Carle (HC, Denver, NCAA)
Mitch Love (AC, Washington, NHL)
Mark Savard (AC, Leafs, NHL)
Mike Leone (HC, Rochester, AHL) - plus then maybe I will have a chance to work with the Flyers ahaha.
Cam Abbott (HC, Chicago, AHL)
Kirk MacDonald (HC, Wilkes-Barre, AHL)
Jussi Ahokas (HC, Kitchener, OHL)

All great track records, and play fun hockey... and all younger and well known for being innovative. Albeit maybe only ~3 of them have any shot at NHL HC off the bat, the others would be AC first most likely.

I used to like Sam Hallam a LOT, now Sweden NT HC... but he has made a lot of bizarre decisions with NT and it seems more and more like the Vaxjo Front Office (Evertsson and Hall) are the geniuses of the piece... since Jonsson stepped in and they were #1 and #2 in SHL AFTER Hallam left.
