I’m stunned by the amount of pro Tortorella stuff being promoted at various media outlets. Like he made this team so good that they almost made the POs. These folks don’t understand that his moves were the reasons why the Flyers didn’t make the POs. These people are into pushing the vibe that the players aren’t tough like they were in the past and need a Tortorella boot camp to whip them into shape. One guy went into why Tortorella is more important than any of the players. If this mentality takes over Briere and Jones, the organization is doomed.

ummm thats been the mentality for 50 years..

and yes it is all f***ed. until the oldbois die off they will never stop being the guiding light of input

This article is well done. It seems like you could substitute Tortorella for Babcock in a lot of places. Abusive bullying going on with these guys. Captain Kangaroo, Ken Hitchcock, is right there with them. You can see why Babcock and Hitch are out of the game. Today’s players aren’t going to respond well to this type of crap. Torts may well be joining them soon. Unfortunately in some corners of the league these types hold sway.

Any of these things sound familiar?

1. Have to change the culture.

2. Have to play the game the "right" way. As if the winning teams and offensive players are not playing "right"

3. Lousy power play which is always blamed on an assistant coach.

4. Feuds with and gets rid of teams offensive players who don't play the game "right".

5. Torts get credit for staying around 500 hockey without good offensive players.

6. Torts gets the spotlight. Wins are about Torts getting the team to "buy in". Losses are on the players not having enough talent or not playing the "right way".

The last one to me is the absolute worst. He gets credit for teams playing hard and squeezing out ~3-5 more wins a season, but doesn’t get criticism for the horrid player selection/deployment that costs them 3-5 wins per season.

I think that you could add Couturier to that list.
In a month, I bet that Farabee and Frost are no longer Flyers. Cross Torts and you’re gone. When the season starts and they start losing because they can’t score, his act will have burned through.

Alright with michkov coming over they've got to get rid of the jackals and his pal rocky Thompson, we need solid coaching, shaw can stay as he's proven himself to be damn good with defensemen, especially make our defense even somewhat average, but we need a strong head coach and another assistant

We do not need torts dicking this kid around, benching him for stupid reasons or even cutting his ice time, if he deserves it that's a different story, but torts is known for picking on younger players

The same things have been said about Paul Maurice, and his team is in the Stanley Cup final. They might choke and lose game 7, but they are there, and they play the same style of hockey Torts is trying to get the Flyers to play.

Michkov? He's Russian. idk his personality, but if he's like Ovi or Barkov him and Torts will be just fine.
