Those were also Robbie Brown's stats, but I'm sure there's nothing in common there.

Mods please sticky this thread so it can hang around on the half wall without really deserving to. If you don't, it's because you don't love Penguins hockey and Bryan "Acceptable Warts" Rust and that's YOUR problem.
Reminds me of Rob Brown being chased around by Ron Hextall, like.... Captain Jack Sparrow being chased about by Captain Hector Barbossa in Curse of the Black Pearl.

They expect Rust to elevate his play beyond what it is: a forward who can and SHOULD move up and down the lineup. These takes about how he should drive offense have always been wild. He got paid a bit of a premium for being a jack of all trades in-house guy, but his money and performance are basically spot on now.

The plain and simple issue is that he's stapled to Sid. That's dumb. Then again, we don't have any offensive weapons and since they seem so adverse to playing Geno with Sid and admitting we are truly only capable of 1 scoring line at the NHL level....so Rust is clearly and obviously better than any of the other spare parts we have floating around.

For similar cap hits to Rust, you can get RNH, Evander Kane, Yanni Gourde, Charlie Coyle, JT Compher and Jared McCann. That seems about right to me.

I literally thought I was missing an inside joke when I initially saw this thread. I'm so confused how this is even a discussion. He's not 2017 Bryan Rust but most guys also stop playing like their younger self when they are 32.

It's pretty amazing how many 3rd round picks the Pens hit on from 2010-2013. Guentzel, Rust, Murray, Sundqvist. A lot of fanbases would be happy with that as their list of 1st round picks over a four year stretch. Included us haha.

I will always love Rust as a fan, he has gotten away from some aspects of his game that made him a bonafide NHLer, but he was never going to be a player with a long peak. We are spoiled by legends that seemingly never age. Rust is one hell of a player to get in the third round.

If only there was someone on the team they could try instead of Rust. If only....

The Ghost of Christmas Future takes Bryan Rust to the broadcasting booth. And when Rust catches his reflection in the window glass, Phil Bourque’s dead eyes stare back at him .

Rust, somewhat like Pascal Dupuis before him, is a pretty good player who tries hard and can be penciled in for 20-some goals - and that's nothing to sneeze at compared to many of the dire players we've seen in the past several years - but his sentimental value as a member of the back-to-back cup teams far exceeds his actual value on the ice. They should be trying to move him.

(For the record, I think Rust is better than Dupuis was.)

Schizo is playing this lineup for 82 games, and expecting it to work every single night.

I don't see how that lineup is improved by subbing a replacement level guy for a guy with 13 points in 19 games.

Rust has 12 points in 19 games, he's -13 in 19 games.

Saying Puljujarvi is sub replacement is just a straight up joke.
