The Official Android Thread Part XV: Time For Some Oreo!

Looks alright. Nothing mind blowing on these devices but with a screen size approaching the Nintendo switch and far superior displays and power they should start targeting game development.

Great video explaining how I feel about companies like Oppo and 1+.
What he didn't mention also, is how companies like HTC take too much into account what enthusiasts say and get buried by the mainstream audience.

I don't even understand what the trap is. This guy considers running ads targeting different audience a trap? It honestly makes no sense to me.

The trap is that catering your products to the tiny enthusiast market is a death sentence if you don't pivot to appeasing the majority market. And those that pivot end up alientating their early adopter crowd but this ends up being a huge risk as if they flop trying to appeal to the mainstream market, they can't fall back to their enthusiast roots (I guess 1+ is an exception)

Another video of this guy that reflects how I feel about stock Android as well.

I've come back to Android after a few years with BB10. I've spent too little time with Android to say I really feel I know what is out there, and to compare stock with other falvours... but I'm running MIUI 8, and I can't really complain about it too much.

is it just me or does checking "trust this device" on googles 2 step verification do nothing?

I still need to put in a verification pin every time I log in. I'm not clearing my history or anything.

MIUI 8 is actually good; a relative has a Xiaomi Mi phone and the MIUI features are actually nice.
I've never cared for stock Android tbh.

My mom has the Huawei Honor 5X, the UI is a bit iOS-y but it's still Android and has nice features (if only the camera was flagship quality, but it's not too bad and the phone was $150 bucks unlocked, can't really complain)
And Huawei introduced fingerprint gestures way before the Pixel.

The G6 is quietly looking like a great device. Waterproof, high-end materials, high-end DAC with headphone jack. Shame its skin will probably be a bloated LG mess. If not for that, I'd be all for it.

I'm on the Xiaomi Note 3 Pro (Global version)... I'm quite pleased with the camera on it. I'm sure the higher end phones probably edge it out, but for a phone I paid $250 CDN for, it's nice. The camera is listed as being 1080p, but it's actually a 4K capable camera, and you just need to use a 3rd party app to take advantage of it.

Damn that's a nice deal

Has anyone used the Moto Z yet? They're marketing the hell out of it and I'm seeing them available for really cheap.

Why did you swtich from S6 to Pixel?

I'm pretty happy with my S6 (well except for the battery life lol)

Also were you eligible for an updgrade?

I had an early upgrade fee. My contract was up in April or so (or whenever two years after the S6 came out was).

I've always liked the Google phones. I had a Nexus S and then Galaxy Nexus. I then had a few Samsung phones, and after following the Pixel for a few months before it came out I decided I wanted it.

The S6 worked perfectly. I just wanted to spend money when I should be saving it for more important things.
