Crazy how Arizona was just recently above .500.

What happened to them?

(And crazy how the Wild were below .500. The Wild have a lot of great pieces, like the Sens actually).

We somehow need to get the Jackets and Coyotes going, whether through trading them players to help them, or Voodoo, or some other way...
Wild situation is explainable. Wild collapsed when Kaprizov was hurt. Coyotes are another matter.

I see that senators finally ahead of Habs with some games in hand and Zona should leapfrog us soon too... unless Habs go on some kind of a stupid winning streak. I don't see anyone else passing Habs. So... 5th seems like a possibility. Maybe it will even be a forward.

Arizona was actually way ahead of us at one point but have lost 17 of their last 21 games, including an 11 game losing streak at the moment.

Whats Arizona strength of schedule compared to ours

We're the 2nd hardest, and they're the 16th hardest.

Considering how Habs playing right now, i don't think we can exclude Columbus from eventually passing us. I feel safe saying Habs will finish anywhere from 4th-7th to last spot.

I would say that's a fair assessment, especially considering how hard our remaining schedule is. We will get a good player no matter where we pick between 4-7, but I'd like to be at 4 so that we can choose between a few of the top prospects, instead of picking "who's left".

Mainly I want to be able to pick one of Lindstrom or Demidov. If both are gone I'm not sure who they will prefer but I hope it's Catton.

Yes and I have a feeling both Lindstrom and Demidov will be picked in the Top 5.

I'm not so confident, I think Lindstrom for sure but the defenseman are tantalizing for a lot of teams who haven't picked defenseman high at the same rate they have at forward.

Set for what exactly, that’s still about the worse team in the league + more inexperienced, mid level rookies.
Are you kidding? Then just stop watching the Habs if you truly believe that. You are in for a depressive life.
Macklin by himself make the habs relevant. Then you have the like of Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf who are showing nice things. The defense is overrated granted but they are not that terrible. Are they winning the league? Probably not, but add Zegras or Reinhart and it is becoming quite a nice team (which they could do)

Exactly, add this guy, that guy, all the current and future draftees and rookies max out potential and voilà. I feel we are seeing closer to the same situation than your tone suggests.

Hughes better get busy on the phone, I hope his strategy goes beyond sucking and firing the vets.

Anyhoot I am just souring a legit fun thread that makes finishing last more tolerable, I’ll stop there.

Another fifth overall pick, which, hopefully, we will not squander as we did our previous one, though no one we draft will come close to the level of talent we passed over last year. I am quite eager to see where we stand in three years, when Gallagher's contract comes off the books, Michkov comes over, and our "Tank" draft picks are all starting to make their mark - whatever that might be - in the NHL so that we can - we hope - see our cup window begin to open up.

Michkov is obviously a head case or they would have drafted him. They will give some made up reason for passing on him like lack of viewing because they aren't going to say he is a head case like Wright.

Have you even read my post or you are just trying to stir the pot? If you are so depressed and want to be bitchy about little things, maybe refrain from posting?

I have? You can stop telling me what to think and write unless it turns you on.

The team you posted has as much a chance to suck than to succeed in my opinion, and it’s built on speculation added to a shit team.

It was talked about more last year with Michkov, but the media brought it up not too long ago. Teams are still struggling to get live viewings of Russian players and teams just don't like relying too much on video, and they don't like not having any sort of crossover scouting.

So even though Demidov doesn't have the same issues as Michkov, he likely still drops somewhat due to the Russian factor. And that's on top of being a somewhat smallish winger playing in a "weak" league which also usually lead to a player dropping. So I'd be kind of surprised if Demidov is taken top-5.

1st spin...LFG!!!

Habs have not been any better than the Leaf teams you mention. Record breaking bad since Price started missing games. And sorry as heck to watch win or lose.

They also do not have a single player or prospect close to the talent of the guys you listed. Tanking did not work. It’s a fraction of the solution. I don’t believe in the future of the team if that’s the only plan they have.

Every talented player in mtl gets thrown under the bus by our excel sheet warriors and a made up future where some imaginary, low probability plan came together. Get good players through trades and drafts, but keep the very few you have. I only see more jersey fillers in the farm.
Agreed somewhat...................but this is a process, and is a journey not a sprint..............no one in their right mind would admit to us getting down on the FAIL exploits of the Leafs.
Just used them as an example. The previous regime left nothing but overpriced vets and 2 kids to start our rebuild..............we did, win the lottery one year too soon, but that's another story.

This...............is going to take time, and my patience wears easily too....................targetting 1st round picks, and prospects is The Plan...............and it seems to be working. They are looking at the kids out there, who can.............Skate, and that's where it all begins.

The farm, is from the offensive perspective pretty thin..............so getting creative with the draft capital is the only thing that can possibly expedite this process.
At some point, we need a Jack Eichel type of trade...................

Yeah totally agree. They are doing all they can expiring contracts and drafting high, but more Dach-like trades for forwards stand out as a need for sure. It’ll make watching the draft fun again this year :)

Back in last place in the division...sucks and one can only hope things start going in the right direction next season. They need to drop another couple of spot to have a decent chance at winning the draft lottery and getting Celebrini

No one has a decent shot at Celebrini other than the last place team and that's only at 25.5%. It's totally random, even second last is only 13.5%. We can only hope.

It would be great if we could move up with the Winnipeg 1st and Calgary/Florida 1st next year to get another top 15 pick. I think the conditions are too convoluted for another team to trade for it though, they don't know if they're getting #11 from Calgary or #30 from Florida. It would be awesome and hilarious though if we could somehow jump a pick ahead of the Flames and take Tij Iginla.
