Based on what I heard him say earlier this week, it seems like he's pretty happy being a highly paid assistant at Carolina while simultaneously being paid by Auburn as well.

On the bright side, the NAACP can shut down their "investigation" of Ruffin McNeill being fired.

Thought you were joking...apparently not.

And seems like the common theme was not enough money for the coaching staff, apparently Ruffin turned down an extension before the year for that reason and that was a sticking point with Hoke. Montgomery is a bit out of left field, but seems to be regarded as a great recruiter and obviously is familiar with the area. We'll see how it works out.

Definition of outta left field, but I will wait and see. Athlon Sports thought this was an amazing hire, he is apparently regarded as a brilliant offensive mind and also as an excellent recruiter.

I hope he brings in a solid DC tho, our offense is fine, but the defense could use some work.

Also, somewhat interesting to note, Pirate Radio reported that his salary is almost 50% incentive based. He'll make a flat $1m in guaranteed money (Coach McNeill made $1.4m last season), but can earn up to an additional 950k based on performance.

Congrats Appalachian State on your very first bowl win.

And also congrats to the Arkansas State assistant coach who wore this:

Is App State gonna blow this?

That was certainly a roller coaster. Felt like we carried the play for most of the game, but screwed ourselves just enough to have to fight for it all the way to the end. I knew the way we played in the first quarter was unsustainable, but it should never have been that close at the end. The missed kicks were annoying from a guy who's been almost automatic this season, and the end of the first half was completely stunning. Thankfully we managed to get some bounces to go our way in the second half and basically reset the game.

Looking back, that safety probably wouldn't have been a safety if Cox hadn't tweaked his knee (or ankle?) after that first hit. He usually bounces off of those and keeps going, but he took two steps, fell over, and didn't get up. That turf did a number on a lot of guys' knees and ankles last night.

But at the end of the day, a win is a win, and it felt good to see them win their first bowl game.

Man I hate the damn bowl system more than ever. 41 bowl games? As a State fan I refuse to pretend that going to the Belk Bowl by beating Troy, Eastern Kentucky, Old Dominion, South Alabama, Wake Forest, Boston College, and Syracuse is any sort of achievement.

You don't have to feel like it's an achievement, but it's definitely good for the program. More money and more practices. Plus the TV exposure.

pretty much this, also, the Belk Bowl is about as prestigious a Tier II Bowl as there is.

And a win over a team with the recent history that MSU has, would certainly be quite the feather in Doeren's hat. That said, as you are a rival, I am fully on board with MSU and hope they win by 50
