You should be a stand up comic; really. Truth is I have been attending Rangers games since 1960 and if fans around here see me as very negative(I call is objective) and a debbie downer, so be it. We are talking about the NY Rangers, far and away the worst of the original 6 franchises and the winner of one whole Stanley Cup in 73 years. Oh yeah, we also have a lousy GM who has been milking his success from 25 years ago and is stealing 5 mil+ a year from the organization.

I'm a firm believer in "put up or shut up" "****, or get off the pot.". So far, I see the fans around here and the dregs who work for the organization putting a postive spin on the team year in and year and out and, to date, the same ****ed up results!

Get my drift now? Or am I being too obtuse??

So put up your ****ing arguments backed with something other than horribly formed opinions or get the **** off the pot. Oh, sorry. I haven't watched them as long as you despite analyzing, and gluing myself to the game of hockey since I could remember. Positivity is warranted. Looking up is warranted. There is no hard evidence suggesting anything you've been saying is true. Rangers have been making good signings and draft picks. Get to see them even try out and have something to be positive about then too. This season is gonna be different. Doesn't mean ****ing bad. Tired of you parading around this thread calling everyone stupid because they don't agree with you.

The goals are going to come from up and down the lineup, because lo and behold our roster actually looks quite balanced for once! The Rangers team has a lot of questionmarks, but if all players produce an average season we have one of the most complete teams in the league. The only area we may lack in is out and out offensive punch, but if Stepan keeps it up and Richards bounces back we are hardly lacking there either.

The roster on paper was pretty balanced in 11-12, once Hagelin and Mitchell got called up. We just need to score 3 goals most games to win. That kind of more balanced lineup was successful for us doing that 2 years ago. Last year, less balance, less 3 goal games (we were 16th there, albeit on a smaller sample size).

It'd be nice to be a team that scores 4+ a lot and it'd be nice to have 3 30+ goal scorers a la Chicago, but that's not how we're built. I don't think anyone should be expecting an offensive explosion from this group (that's not targeting you, just a general thought).

Clearly the 1975 Rangers being a disappointment is more relevant to Stepan and Hagelin's future performance than their past performance is.

Who are our good draft picks? Do you realize that if Kreider craps out this year, Miller doesn't develop into what we all hope(including myself) into a solid 2 way 2nd line center and if McIIrath doesn't make the team and then make a big difference, then 3 of our last 4 #1 draft picks will have ended up being busts.
One other thing; you don't like my posts, don't reply to them! I didn't start this latest ****fest! Go check for yourself.

Look, we get it youve been a longer suffering fan than anybody on this site. Your dedication is to be respected but keep in mind that time served does not equate to time served well especially as you never fail to cite your resume in every post and it doesnt automatically validate your opinion. You are beginning to remind me of an old deadhead who claims he's been to 568 shows and "the Darkstar they played since 1989 doesnt count because they werent as good as the last one played in 73".

If if if

Time to grow up and act your age!
Let me know when Hagelin and perhaps even Stepan turn out to be bona fide stars!

So at some point are you going to address the substance of the post you quoted?

Does every single post have to be backed up by ridiculous stats that mean zilch once the playoffs begin?(Assuming we make it?)

My so called "horribly formed opinions" of this team have been backed up by their lousy performances over the years or did we conveniently forget that we haven't won a cup since 1994 and we've gotten out of the 1st round only 4 times and the 2nd round only 1 time in the last 19 years.

Get a ****** clue!

God Almighty, I don't need lousy stats to back up my opinion on a player or topic of conversation. It's my god damn opinion and if you don't like it or agree with it, fine!

No one is saying they are.

Agree but this latest ****fest started with one of our illustrious posters claiming that we are "great" 5x5 and Hags, Stepan and Nash are a legit #1 line. I disagree; that's it and that's all! Geez, I wish august would end already!

So if our last 3 first rounders crap, then they'll be busts. The problem is that all three don't look like busts. There may not be a Joe Sakic or a Chris Pronger, but no one said they would be. There is no reason to think they can't all be quality pieces...

well there is no denying Stepan was a star last year, almost a PPG is clearly a star.. We will see if he keeps it up this year

I don't think he's an 80 point center... at present. 60-65 is a very reasonable expectation.

65 points is still very good and I agree BUT also take into consideration he's playing with Nash. He put up 50 points playing with less talent

There are only two proven star players on this roster, Lundqvist, and Nash.

Stepan still has a lot to prove despite one very good half season. Players have career years that rank them among consistent star players only to never come close to eclipsing those numbers again.

I'm not holding my breath.

It also was his first season playing with Nash..

Not specifically,

I have not been following as long as you, mid 80s for me, but all the same I've kind of started to look at things a bit differently.

I truly believe stats can lie, if you read opinions enough it just plain does not make any sense. Yet if the stats also support what you see, you have some analytical support that your not just getting old and bitter. :)

I have some sense of them, I look at them, I use them, is not like they are kept for no reason. The "new" advanced stats are not new. Coaches have been keeping their own stats for a pretty long time, maybe since the inception of the insightful coach.

Without the context of seeing the player, and seeking and trying to understand other people's perception of that player as well, those stats can mislead just as much as just seeing the player(s) can.

I believe and hope like hell that all 3 players will succeed; I was just making a point about the slim line between success and failure!

Stepan also isn't your typical playmaking center... at all.

First, he's average at faceoffs. Has been every year. He's got decent but unspectacular pivotal skating, good vision, but only just above average passing ability. He isn't very strong on the puck, either.

However, he has shown great hands around the net. Deflections, goal mouth plays, you remember at least a few of them. Some of the players he has clocked best with were of third line caliber, as he seems to do best on the cycle rather than the rush.

So when you guys say he'll be the absolute center for a guy like Nash, always play that position, I don't know if Stepan is the guy you want him to be/ think he is. He's not Oates or Savard or Crosby or even Richards. He reminds me a lot more of a hybrid Pavelski/Stastny and I think he'll consequently see substantial time on the wings in his career.
