Then what? Did you have a new teacher that propelled you to Harvard?

Or did you just wind up getting sick of the next teacher too? This false narrative that every coach has a shelf life gives someone like Sather free reign to push the team's failures onto the coach year after year. After 13 years, you'd think we'd know better.

Across every sport, what percentage of coaches get fired vs. how many walk away on their own terms? Even Joe Torre got fired.

Coaches absolutely have a shelf life, just like the GMs, just like the players. That's the nature of sports.

Absolutely. No coach can save Richards if he isn't in shape. If Richards is on the decline as a player then your not going to get much out of him regardless of where you put him. I was just saying all you can ask for out of a coach is to make the most out of what he is given and put his players in a position to succeed. If players believe their coach can put them in a position to succeed, hopefully they work that much harder for him.

I definitely hope they work hard for AV, but from the comments made by the players thus far in the offseason, they are all looking forward to having fun under AV and there hasn't been much said about hard work or effort. We'll see what happens.

That'd be fine with me if our GM actually had one.

Sather likes to toot the horn about how the team needs a new voice everytime he fires a coach. When do we get a new voice for roster construction?

It'd be poetic justice if AV is even harder on them.

I'm not sure I like these new USA Nike jerseys....

These look more like soccer kits. Barf.

I wish I had the answer to that one

You're entitled to your own opinion, just gotta say it's painfully ignorant.

You honestly think the entire roster is comprised of babies who cried to Sather because the big meany yelled at them?

Pretty miraculous that Sather was able to construct a roster comprised of 20+ mentally weak sissy men.

Which kind of goes against everything we've heard about this squad, even from Torts. By all accounts they have enough intestinal fortitude to overcome some adversity.

Now the coach who is a well known ass is the victim, because he definitely respected his players and was never out of line? Poor guy being vilified by a bunch of cowards.

Everyone who deserves respect needs to earn it, Torts demanded it. You don't get far in any situation where you demand respect but are hesitant to give it in return. I had a boss like that once, and after awhile it started to irritate me, naturally I kept my mouth shut until he made a female co-worker cry by being an over bearing narcissist. At which point I have him a piece of my mind, afterwards our relationship was much better and a lot of his snarl was gone. Point being, it's generally just an act, it works for awhile until people figure out it's just an act. Trust me I'd know I used to do it, until I realized you get better results by giving people a chance to succeed before running them down.

You could tell by the 2nd month of the season that there was a divide in the room, and that the team wasn't going to play like they had the year before. Plenty of time for Torts to find a solution and make a change which he didn't. When guys like Girardi and Callahan aren't paying the way the coach wants you know something is wrong, those are two players who don't make a lot of excuses and generally give it their all regardless of how big of an ass the guy behind the bench is.

They got into the playoffs because they didn't want to embarrass themselves, beat the Caps out of pride before inevitably giving the coach a big F you by not playing his game anymore.

Fact of the matter is you reap what you sow, and Torts isn't smart enough to understand that you can't demand respect, and acts dumbfounded when people get fed up with his charades.

That is a gross jersey. There was nothing wrong with what they had.

Yeah that jersey is gross. Not a fan of the shield and would rather have the standard "USA" emblazoned across the chest. The stars on the shoulder are tacky and remind me of a gymnastics leotard.

why did they even change the jerseys? liked the old ones........those new ones are mehhh

So who do you think gets an invite to the Rangers Training Camp? I know Sather normally likes to bring in at least a couple of guys to battle for spots.

I wouldn't mind seeing:

Whitney
O'Byrne
Mueller
Larose

Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing Deveaux back if he would take a low cap hit so they could send him down. He was effective in Hartford for his year here.

Wade Redden
Tom Poti
Alex Semenov

But really, I think any invites will be forwards. I don't think a defenseman would be worth the time.

I would love to see Brad Boyes brought in, but I don't think he's a try-out type.

That's the issue I am seeing. There are so many guys still out there, it's hard to know who will be a "try-out type".

Mueller I think would be a good idea. I like Larose as well. Hard-nosed guy.

I've always been intrigued by Akim Aliu.

Mueller, Kobasew, Prospal, O'Byrne, Latandresse, Raymond, maybe Whitney.

I'm very surprised no one has taken a flier on Latandresse. Same with Prospal.

Raymond is still out there. So is Brunner. There are better, younger players available.

yes there are but I don't think Brunner, or even Raymond would get invited to training camps. Get the feeling they'd be signed before camp. But if not, they'll be hot invites.

The crazy thing is, they don't have much more time to sign. Cleary is still out there as well. Teams like Detroit and others are trying to off-load players for next to nothing.

Ew, no. Boyes is awful. And where does he fit?

Raymond makes the most sense imo, in particular for the obvious reasons.

Raymond has ties to AV but so did Lapierre and look how that turned out.. i wont be shocked if a team like the Caps, Ducks or Bruins give Raymond a look..
