I hope the MLA's will put aside politics for now and just deal with the emergency.
now is not the time to complain about the NDP.

I hope the gas companies don't take advantage of this situation and up fuel goes to a ridiculous price.

the only good news coming out is that there arent any reports of lives lost. had to find a positive though that is not a community designed to handle that kind of emergency highway 63 is terrible. I read reports of communities south putting up signs letting people know they are welcome in their homes. thats awesome to see. I didn the same thing when the floods happened in calgary

I remember when I lived up there-most people have active brain cells and when they got the word to leave--they left--in other places loss of lives has been cause by people refusing to leave

In defense of Ft Mac they have been begging for increased access and roadways and more lanes for decades and it hasn't been delivered. For most of yesterday they were reduced to one way out of town which just can't happen for a city of this size. Anybody familiar with Ft Mac knows that the road infrastructure there can't even handle basic anyday traffic load conditions and that this has been the state of affairs for decades. Introduce a national scale emergency into that and this is what you have.

kudos to the valiant efforts of firefighters who undoubtedly saved countless people last night who were stuck in roadways, freeways, neighborhoods that were on fire. The battling of fires using everything from helicopters, bombers, ground support was people working all day 16hr days from reports. We got some heroes here.

Reopening the southbound section was key to getting people out so they had to work on a hell of a lot of fronts at once with this fire.

TO be fair there probably isnt a city/community in the world that can handle the whole place being evacuated in a matter of a couple hours. That was alot of people.

Yep. But made all the worse as yesterday for around as much as 10hrs there was only one way, (north) out of town as Southbound on highway 63 had been closed most of the day.

I made the St Albert comment earlier as a dozen years ago this City also had somewhat limited exit points (which is now rectified) tbh I don't know of any other municipality in Canada with a pop of 125K (Wood Buffalo Municipality) that is as isolated and landlocked with only 1 highway serving an running through it.

This is a pretty unique situation.

I agree with that, I just think if you try and move outt 125K out of any area its going to be a total gong show.

A colleague of mine has two relatives living in Fort McMurray. Both lost their houses yesterday. I have a client who has fled FM to the Edmonton area. I don't know if their house is safe. Ironically, they're moving down here and sold the house Monday pending signing of the papers yesterday. I don't know if they still have a house to sell. Tragic!

I see quite a few places jumping on board with the Pint and offering free meals to people from Fort Mac.

very nice of you, but you could have just said you donated to the red cross, and left it at that.

yer right, I'm broke as a joke though so I'm patting myself on the back publicly lol, and trying to encourage people to donate whatever/as much they can!

I caught the end of Jamieson and Lowetides conversation. Jamieson was going on and on about how it's a one of a kind event and for a good cause. I was like right on guys doing charity already.

Turned out it was for Eskimo's wives foundation or something. Bit of odd timing.

Scary stuff, man.

A lot of homes, and businesses, lost, and that's terrible, but glad everyone seems to be safe at least. No reported injuries, or deaths, that's pretty incredible for such a catastrophic wild fire.

Sounds like a state of emergency has been declared. Feds are sending supplies and choppers as well.

There were ads on constantly today about sending a text to a certain number and it auto donates $5 to the redcross.

Then on the very same station I heard the DJ's advertising their own donation thing. So you do the same thing except the radio station takes the donation, and then what, they pass it on to the redcross?

Maybe I misheard, but if I didn't, why ask for donations to the radios fund. Just promote the redcross one so it's streamlined and efficient.
