If you train obsessively like Eakins and are 130lbs soaking wet then carrying all that is some heavy ****..;)

heh.
I actually never say anything to people who appear to be lazy, or don't seem to have a need to use handicapped parking. I understand a lot more now that people can have health conditions that are not easily visible. they probably get enough public shaming that I don't want to add to it.

I'm totally useless when it comes to building things.
I need a new wooden fence. anyone have an idea of who I could call to have it done?
what's the max height allowed for a fence. 6 feet?

Didn't want to clutter the arena thread, but what are the odds that Northlands gets hammered in this lawsuit for parking lot employees?

I'm hoping zero.

When people are stealing and no one wants to fess up or turn the culprits in, there are consequences.

I think they should get hammered. they couldn't bother investigating the theft and instead fire everyone? I'm not much for suing people, but if I wa sone of the employees, I'd be pretty ticke doff to be painted with such a broad brush by northlands.

Odds are the majority had no idea, so the majority should all get canned? What makes it worse and the article I read was that Northlands could've done an investigation for 400k but it was never an option in their opinion.

This is my feelings as well. Some employees with 30+ years lost their jobs and were branded thieves.

I always encourage people to confront this. you always feel better and enjoy something more building it yourself.

I was a shop teachers nightmare. Literally had 5 thumbs and uncoordinated as **** for trying to build anything in school. A bird house would've been my undoing. Basically anything. Something I built would have had hazardous nails sticking out all over and not holding any two pieces of wood together..I was a legendary nail bender. I had kind of accepted that I was just no good at it. But I think it was more developmental than anything and I was a thinker rather than a doer.

Basic carpentry, fence building, framing, deck building, with some basic knowledge, design planning, is something anybody can do.

As a homeowner I've come to love building things, repairing things, and fixing anything. To me its become one of the pride and joys of home ownership. You will absolutely be hammered for price to build any kind of fence. For a full perimeter fence I shudder at the price. In anycase price would be multiple amounts of what it takes to do it yourself. You're paying out for a ton of labor cost in addition to whatever contractors price margin is. Also look forward to them over engineering a basic fence and resulting in more costs.

Have you consulted with your neighbors? Maybe one of them is handy and willing to do the adjoining fence or help out?

Also consider at least renting a large garbage bin and doing the basic tear down and disposal. Anything you do yourself is likely to save you money. Try not to get nails all over the place so you have flat tires for the next decade. ;) jk That's more of a problem with amateur dyi shingle layers figuring out nail guns.... <shudder>

Better than having stubs when done:sarcasm:

I do agree with the neighbor part or friend. All it takes is someone to help guide and give you some tips as you go. Even if you hire someone, odds are they have 1 guy on site that knows everything and then a couple of guys that follow.

If you do it yourself, consider getting a skidsteer with auger (hired likely) to drill the post holes. It will be a fairly small portion of the cost if you have it all marked out ahead of time. Probably the most challenging part of the whole ordeal will be getting the posts in one nice straight line. Use a stringline from one end to the other both before and after the holes are drilled and use this to align the posts. Once their set, pour some gravel in, tamp it good and ensure they aren't moving. Consider concrete at a corner post or halfway along if there is a long stretch.

Oh, and I'd use screws ;)

PS I'm also planning on building a fence this summer, but I might have just used up all that money on my basement.

My father in law is an aircraft mechanic and is also one of those people that can't sit still for more than an hour before he has to do something useful, so he's very graciously offered to help with our fence this summer. It's not going to be big or anything (the back area behind our duplex that we're enclosing is only something like 12 ft x 8 ft and is more of a dog pee area than anything) but does anyone know what kind of costs I'll be looking at for a chain link fence with a gate?
