"Yes, 100 percent," Preds captain Shea Weber told ESPN.com on the phone from the L.A. area Wednesday. "We’re very aware of that. It starts with our forecheck. It’s tough to generate anything if you’re not getting the puck and teams are breaking out real easy. I think we have to get a little more aggressive and intense on the forecheck, which will lead to some turnovers and creating things down low. Our power play also has to step up. It made a big difference for us last year and needs to get back to where it was."

"Everything is magnified right now with the short season," Weber said. "We even talked about it before the season, that we couldn’t afford a slump or a lull. And obviously it’s happened. We have to try and find a way to correct it quickly."

Some more quotes in the article, which is pretty good.

It's amazing the difference a year makes. A year ago, I felt like despite an almost identical roster for most of the year, there was never a game where we had no chance. I felt we had a chance in every game because our hard work would create unexpected chances.

This year, thus far, I feel no confidence that we'll execute even with hard work. Our lack of stick handling ability is really glaring. Making the good pass isn't that useful when the recipient won't shoot, misses the net by 20 feet, or simply turns the puck over due to no stick handling ability.

I'm sure my attitude will change as soon as we win some and start looking better, but right now, all I see is futility from our forwards.

Game's not over yet, but watching Edmonton handle that "hard system" the Coyotes play isn't making me feel better about our situation

True enough- but they sure as heck aren't giving up 4 goals either. I am both looking forward to, and dreading, tomorrow's game. We've GOT to find a way to get a W

indeed.. if we lose 2 or 3 more in a row, we may be into too deep a hole to get out of. very possible we do that if not worse.

our next stretch of games are brutal.. @LAK , @SJ , @STL , LAK , @ MIN , CHI , SJ .. then after that it gets easier i guess? PHX again, colorado, dallas, detroit x2 , vancouver

these next 7 are brutal .. 2 of 3 home games are against the 2 best teams in hockey right now. away games SJ, LAK, STL, MINN... ouch.. i got us grabbing 5 points in the next 7 games. thats me being optimistic

Keep in mind last year a lot of us were thinking we might tank enough to draft Yakupov for the first three weeks or so. I won't dispute that we look really bad right now, but we've seen this song and dance before. I'm holding off judgment, but it's getting hard to do so.

At this point Preds need 26 more wins to make the playoffs for 57 points with 42 games to go.

This short season is just bizarre. Usually I don't even look at the standings until a few months into the season. Having everything so compressed is just...weird.

Back in the summer, when Poile\Trotz were asked who was going to step in for Suter to play with Weber, they both sang the praises of Josi, and fans felt good about it\believed it would work.

Would we have been as cheery if they had said "Scott Hannan will be our number 2 defenseman?"

Because that's seemingly where we're at, now.

He's not our number 2 defenseman, Hannan is just horrible and Trotz is trying to find some combo that works for him.

I bet next game, Josi is back with Weber. Hannan had what 3 minor penalities?

14 shots. 8 by defensemen. We need some forwards. The opposing defense doesn't respect us since we have no ability to beat them 1 on 1 so every time we get in the offensive zone, they crowd us.

Sad

There's very little puck support in the cycle right now. You're seeing one man on the boards getting literally triple teamed, while everyone else stands around and watches.

I would have to go back to the early 2000s to remember a Predators team so helpless with its possession game.

This is the cancer that creates the team we have this year. One can explain a game or two of lackluster offensive performance. This was game 7 the coaching staff indicates that SOG is a problem, the players admit SOG has been a problem and they go out once again and have 14 SOG?????? Really only 3 legit scoring chances all game and that does not count the prayer that Yip put in. Its terrible to feel this way after picking up two points. The pending doom that is tomorrow night is sinking in.

Some guys are still trying to make the fancy pass and not just shoot the puck (SK, Leggy) but the team isn't getting low shot totals because they don't want to shoot the puck. The fact is you have to have the puck and be able to cycle/ move the puck efficiently to open up good shot lanes and the Preds simply can't hold onto the puck long enough.

Seems odd to me that we had two days to stress offensive production and we come out and put up 11 shots in regulation. Especially going a period of over 29 minutes with only 1 shot.

our forwards are horrible.. weber, josi, and ellis are gonna have to start producing points wise to see any jump in offensive production.

This.

My question is, how could the SAME GROUP of dudes as last year somehow pull this off a year ago, but right now we can't do anything?! WTF?

Just looking at league stats and something jumped out.

Lindback has a 2.8 GGA but is 4-1 and has a 3-0 lead right now so he will be 5-1. Im glad for him but when you look at the mess the Preds are in there got to be a change. Pekka and the defense have to have some help. Right now there is not a legitimate 1st line forward on the team. Putting names in a yatzee cup and tossing them out to put on a line is not working.
