The 70s were a time where Rock and Roll grew and expanded immensely, both in popularity and stylistically. While its offspring heavy metal and punk began germinating around this time and began growing, other experimental sub genres of rock and roll were growing and did so beyond just the simple Transatlantic Tennis Game between Great Britain and the United States. For another island chain in the pacific caught the bug for rock and roll, punk, and heavy metal and it was Japan. While the land of the rising sun wasn't immune to the genre of rock in the 1960s, as many bands were formed and were labeled as "group sounds" (bands that mixed Western music like rockabilly with early Japanese pop), a lot of the music groups only sang in English. It wasn't until the late 1960s and the 1970s that rock and roll, as well as punk and metal which followed, took on a more Japanese sound and laid the foundations for what would come in the 80s and later the 90s. Here's a sample of the more experimental affairs from Japan's rock scene from the 1970s.
Here's an example of Japanese "group sounds" rock music in a band known as The Out Cast.
