I am too. Did you try the Perry Mason HBO reboot of all things? It's right down that alley. Loved it.

Some other recent noir shows that I enjoyed were Goliath and Ripley.

Goliath starts out as kind of a mediocre Hollywood procedural, but seasons 3 and 4 really amp up into surrealism and neo-noir.

Favorite Femme Fatale ( old school)

Gloria Grahame
Jane Greer
Lizabeth Scott
And of course, perhaps my favorite actress, Barbara Stanwyck. Check out her pre-code movies, femme fatale before Femme Fatales.

Most endearing was Peggy Cummins, an Irish actress, in her one and only appearance in a Noir, Gun Crazy. The scene at the carnival of her shooting her guns between her legs….ooh……she soon left Hollywood and went back to Ireland.

I really enjoyed Ripley. The story was great, the acting was great and it was just beautiful to look at. Really amazing cinematography. I don’t know if anyone mentioned the series Monsieur Spade (I’m new here). I saw it on Netflix. I think it’s an AMC show. It stars Clive Owen as Sam Spade retired in France. If you’re into noir you’ll like it. It’s a real throwback.

From the writer-director of Barbarian, supposedly had a huge bidding war. Take my money. Meanwhile, the follow up to Talk to Me next month. I have a type with my horror movies.

This looks amazing. As a huge horror fan, it gets tiring after awhile seeing endless sequels and reboots, so it’s always exciting seeing original content.

Andor season 2 builds and builds and than it hits like a sledgehammer. Can’t recommend it enough

Episode 1 was great
Episodes 2-4 were very boring to me
Episode 5 it turns the corner and starts to pick up steam.
Episodes 6-9 are f***ing phenomenal...some of the best writing in Star Wars ever. Period.

I still need to watch 10-12 which just debuted last night but i've heard good things so far.

Thanks for your candor on Andor...been seeking a new series to binge on.

The new season of Love, Death, & Robots released this week.

It was pretty rough. As usual the animation is pretty fantastic across the board, but the actual stories are very forgettable. The first one is literally just a music video for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a band that I could not care less about. Of the other 9 episodes, I can only think of 1-2 that I may watch again in the future.

I need to watch Andor.

Mulholland Dr. was good. Finished it maybe a week ago.
The first two thirds dragged and seemed utterly meaningless but the last third was packed with interesting ideas and illuminated what seemed confusing at first.
Kind of reminded me of Infinite Jest by Foster Wallace in terms of structure.
Naomi Watts was incredible. I know she had a good career after this but she should have been A List for a decade plus considering her looks + chops.

I did not like it as much as Blue Velvet which I watched for the first time in January.
The scene where Laura Dern comes out the darkness in all pink is so perfectly done.

I like Lynch. He's like the midpoint between John Waters and Kubrick.

Finished Andor tonight

Episodes 6-12 are the best Star Wars content since Empire. Masterpiece. Need to watch Rogue One now.
Damn I've been so late to the party lately! I was going to post the same thing days ago.

And honestly, if you take out the epic fantasy story, and how groundbreaking those films were at the time?

You could make a strong argument that Andor might be the best OA. Hot damn that was a great TV show!

I think that if there is anything that works against Andor it's the fact that it is set in this science fiction fantasy world. If you told essentially the same story but set it in a real-world setting, say WWII or the Cold War, people could relate to it more easily and it might have a more visceral impact. Just great story telling.

Wild at Heart might not be Lynch's best movie, but it is my favorite of his.

I started watching Season 1 of Andor....it was much too slow...or at least the first episode. Does it build up or is the entire series mostly like that or at least Season 1? I'd imagine not? I just don't want to start at Season 2 even if it is better than 1.

It's not typical Star Wars. No light sabers or Jedi mind tricks. It's basically a suspense/thriller/espionage type show set in the SW universe. It leads right into Rogue One, the background story for how they found out about the plans to build the Death Star. Second season is better than the first, you probably don't really even need to watch season 1; it's good but it serves mainly to introduce the characters.

The first 2-3 episodes of Season 1 are slow, then it starts to build. Second half of Season 1 is excellent, but don't expect a lightsaber/space battle version of Andor. It's more in line with the early seasons of Game of Thrones. Incredibly well written with a smattering of action.

45 years ago today Empire Strikes Back was released in theaters.

The first movie I remember watching in theaters is Empire Strikes Back, although I didn't see in 1980. It was a re-release in 1982 (probably because ROTJ was coming out in 1983).
