First 2 episodes of Spider-Noir on Amazon Prime are excellent. Watch it in black and white. Feels like a live action Batman: The Animated Series at times.
I watched 2 episodes last night. It looks cool. I switched back and forth between B&W and color. I wanted to love the B&W, but honestly kind of like the color better. I'm not really liking Nick Cage's performance. Maybe it's the voice he's doing (I know it's supposed to be like Cagney or Bogart, but it just sounds like he's got a mouth full of something. I need the closed caption to know what he's saying) or that he looks like he's a hundred years old...I don't know...it's putting me off. I'll keep watching. Maybe I'll warm up to it.

Did you watch Into the Spiderverse? He's doing the character from that. He looks old because he is lol, but old people can theoretically be superheroes too.

I did see Into the Spiderverse, but it was a while ago. I remember enjoying it, but don’t really remember that character. I’m no student of the Marvel Universe. As Ben Reilly he’s just so old and run down it’s hard for me to buy him suddenly turning into an acrobat when he puts on the mask. I guess it’s kind of like weakling Clarke Kent turning into Superman? except Clarke Kent still looks like a superhero. He’s just wearing dockers and glasses. Nick Cage looks like he might have trouble tying his shoelaces

Season 2 of bad thoughts was terrible. I don’t think I laughed or came close to laughing once.
I think he signed a deal with Netflix and got bored halfway thru season 1. Season 2 feels like an inside joke to a friend of his, “watch these assholes say this is funny because they don’t want to look like they didn’t think it was funny.”

It’s actually listed as tv-14, but reading the trivia on IMDb it’s actually tv-ma.
If anyone is looking to watch it with younger kids, I would say it’s probably best to wait until they are 12-14. The violence can get a little graphic at times, and they’re pretty free with the language, but nothing worse so far than shit or ass.
someone get their throat slit on screen.

Violence aside, I think kids would be bored by it. I watched a third episode last night. I still can’t get into it and still am put off by Cage’s performance. Clive Owen did it much better as Sam Spade in Monsieur Spade.

My boys are hook on it. I was expecting it to be tv14 until the spoiler scene. They handled it pretty well and wanted to keep watching.
Cage is doing alright. Dudes always been hit or miss.

I can’t remember the last movie I was so eager to see the reviews on as Backrooms. It felt extremely unpredictable for a mainstream movie, and I have a Lynchian weird dread hole that needs filling.

Did you go see it?

We wanted to go on Friday but it was sold out - so we went to see Obsession instead.

It was quite good, if over the top. I think that was the point though! It had a campy edge to it.

$750k budget, no major actors, shot over 20 days, on track to bust through $250M at the box office.

I’m seeing it tomorrow. I saw Obsession last week. It met my expectations — it’s a monkey’s paw story, so it’s not reinventing the wheel, but it really succeeds by being both simple in story and deceptively layered (character motivations, themes, the ambient magic of it all….it’s good conversation fodder). Inde Navarrette is goiiiing places. Absolutely killer lighting techniques and sound design too. Glad I saw it in the theater because the screams and banging noises were jump out of seat territory.

The writer-director is making a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie next. That’ll be interesting because I have zero reverence for it. Outright dislike them besides a few scenes.

The first two acts were pretty strong, but the last one lost me a bit even if there was promise. Everything involving the backrooms and Chiwetel Ejiofor delivered. Especially the camcorder segments. The visuals and atmosphere were stronger than the thinnish script. Liked it, didn’t love it.

Obsession was clearly a better movie — better scripted, better paced, scarier, and I think it’s going to stick with me a lot more. Backrooms leaves a lot of mysteries on the table, but I’m not sure I care enough to overthink them and the theme is a bit heavy handed. Obsession is a more complex character study and a much nastier piece of work.

Sounds like it’s worth a watch. We might be going tonight. Thanks for the feedback!

I felt kinda similar about Longlegs. The atmosphere was excellent, the pacing was decent, but I honestly never felt like the main character was ever in any real danger so that dragged it down a bit for me.

Did not get around to Backrooms this weekend - but did manage to watch a few films late last week and one last night.

LaRoy, Texas, (2003). 5/10

Kind of a goofball dark comedy mystery. A guy finds out his wife is cheating on him, decides to off himself, gets mistaken for a hit man, decides what the hell I'll take the job.

Interesting set up, mediocre execution, still a decent watch.

7500, (2019). 6.5/10

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an airline pilot that has to deal with a hijacking. The entire movie takes place in the cockpit - it never leaves it for even a moment. There is no score at all. Both things I love about movies - limited locations and no score.

Overall it felt very visceral and claustrophobic. The movie takes place essentially in real-time. Really enjoyed this one.

Seules les bêtes, (2019). 7/10.

A woman disappears in a remote part of France. The story is told and the mystery unraveled through the perspective of five different characters linked to the disappearance.

The movie mainly explores loneliness in different forms. Very good overall and worth a watch.

@Magua you were right about Widow's Bay. Watched 6 episodes so far. Its a masterpiece!

Is the mando movie worth it for imax? The kids finally finished the main series, and was looking to take them to see the movie in theaters. They have not been to an imax yet.

Jury Duty Presents Company Retreat is on Prime, but you don't need a subscription to watch it. It's very good, although I think the first season was more impactful mainly thanks to James Marsden. But a celebrity actor wouldn't have worked this time.

The first season was very good. The second season we are a few episodes in and it just did not grab me.
I think it’s because the dudes from a temp agency and has no skin in the game he comes off as being overly polite and fake.

Mando was enjoyable. Took the kids to see it in 3d. They did the 3d effects pretty good imo.
I’d say it was about 70% action, 15% dialogue and 15% puppet goonies.
Some parts just flat out do not make sense other than plot armor.
