Never produced any kind of offense in any junior level. And suddenly he's one of the best defensive defenseman in the NHL and even produces some offense. Another proof that stats watching isn't the same as scouting.

You nailed it.

Having had a ringside seat to watch Ben break out in Winnipeg I think he was limited but had some good “Coach friendly” traits. Buff carried him very effectively in Winnipeg but Buff was that type of player. Ben was a mixed bag in Winnipeg and although i loved the underdog I was never a huge fan although to the point of this thread I really felt he got every last ounce out of his natural ability. He was a cap casualty in Winnpipeg but I was suprised when he went to Montreal and seemed to play well. That 1st for him was laughable and always will be. Ben has had long stretches where I feel he has probably played a bit over his head. I just always think of him as a bottom pairing guy with lots of heart that can play up in the line up effectively with the right partner.
Agreed. I remember watching him in the A. Crazy where he ended up

While it has been surprising how good he has become, he was excellent as a prospect for the swiss junior national teams. He was part of probably the best u18 team we ever had that almost made the finals and beat the russians 5:0 in 2015. He was also the most important player besides Hischier on the U20 team that gave the eventual champion USA their biggest challenge at the WJC in 2017. He was definitely an underrated prospect.

Minor because he was always expected to be a nhl player but Kaidens Guhles development has been insane. He was looking like he may never scratch more than middle pair for his draft year to D+2 and he comes in this year looking like a number 1 D man. Completely insane.
