Post-Game Talk: The milquetoast regular season ends … are better things ahead?

I've thought exactly this for a while. Last year aside from the first 12 games pretty much everything went right for the Oilers in the regular season. This year it has been the opposite and yet the end result is not all that different.

The wild card for me is how close Walman and a resurgent Nurse come to make up for the loss of Ekholm. If they can mange to compensate even 80% for that loss and if (this is a big if) the Oilers goaltending is at least as good as last playoffs, I don't see why this team could not be better than last year's addition.
If we really do see Kane, Frederic, Walman, Draisaitl in the 1st round, I like our chances a lot!

Man knoblach really is a knob. Skinner sitting on point 699 amd I never saw him on the PP or even on the ice with the open net in a meaningless fking game.

That's a mike Keenan mike Babcock type of move. Ugly look🤷‍♂️
He was on the powerplay.

Good, solid defensive game. Nice to see support and depth players produce and have good games. Props to Stu on the shutout (not overly worked but had to make some good stops).

Hopefully this is a sign of disciplined games to come Sunday and beyond.
Agreed on Stu. Gotta dance with the one ya brung and this guy is going to be the guy. May as well rally behind him and hope for the best.

So we win a game against a crappier team finally and we don't have Nurse in the lineup and its another game where Stu gets beaten but it doesn't count. Refs weren't a nightmare pairing either. We got it super easy and with big dumb "leadership" 9 Million Dollar man coming back for the playoffs, itll get way harder than it needs to be.

Talk about looking for something to have a problem with.

Skinner will be in the NHL next year and will get 700 points. As if 700 points is some sort of benchmark anyways.

In my viewing of the game, and past couple on some of the guys we don't see a lot of:

Quinn Hutson - looked like a boy among men out there. At the NHL level, his speed and quickness look subpar. Decision making at NHL game speed was also a step behind. Strength with puck was poor, threw a few weak pucks up the ice that were easily intercepted. Having said all that, this wasn't a warranted NHL look, just the cost of doing business. A bad situation for a rookie to be expected to succeed in. He also showed a lot of hustle, and wasn't that far off game speed. I think he can build himself up in the AHL next year and has a lot of potential.

Josh Brown - offseason addition that seemed like the Vinny D replacement. Honestly he is a better skater - faster- than Vinny D. He hits harder and is meaner. He moves with the puck on his stick better than Vinny. But overall ends up a worse player. It is all decision making. He runs around a bit more and gets out of position and makes poor decisions constantly with the puck.

Ben Gleason - Good skater. Lanky defender who doesn't look like he can physically handle opponents in the D zone. Didn't impress me with any of his puck decisions. I'm not a fan of his; and his ceiling is at the AHL level. Definitely wouldn't dress him ahead of Stetcher, Klingberg, or even Emberson for the playoffs.

I know he didn't play, but has Klingberg ever missed a big opportunity this season. I thought his game and skating would get better and better with more games played as he shook off the rust. Instead he gets hurt (and or infected?) dropped to LTIR and we probably never see him again. Does nothing for his future earning potential or solidifying another NHL job for him personally.
This could have been a astute move by management, instead it's another example of the Anti-Midas touch they've had all year. Every decision they make turns to crap.

Lol everyone bitched about how horrible knoblach treated Skinner all season yet now it's ok? Lolol

It might be difficult for you to comprehend, but not being happy about a player not being in the lineup is far different than a laughable Babcock comparison because he didn't give him enough power play time to hit an invented milestone that nobody on earth other than you cares about.

Sure. But Michaels comments on that tonight, kind of silly. They were comparing glory years Oilers teams and saying that two of those cup winning clubs didn't even make 100pts...

Well geniuses that was before 3pt games. This team wouldn't be close to 100pts either in a 2pt NHL. Debrusk and Michaels thought this was significant. Sure they didn't even think about it being an apples to oranges comparison.

Others. "McD getting 100pts again in the hardest time in the history of the NHL" really? Well that isn't accurate.

Finally more of the two droning on while play and scorng chances occur. This game was off but what a shit broadcast.
3 pt games mean you tire out your team more so that makes it a longer season.

Kulak, podkolzin, Conner brown, Bouchard.

The 82 game bros.

Was skinner injured or was he a healthy scratch for 10 games?
Skinner was a healthy scratch. He got a bit of rough ride this year, but at the beginning he was a train wreck the team had to sort out. Too bad he lost the coach's confidence until the end of the year.
