John Hoven was on with Jonathan Davis on the Two Man Advantage to discuss a myriad of Los Angeles Kings related topics – and went so far as making a few bold predictions about upcoming moves and the future of GM Dean Lombardi, as well as defenseman Matt Greene. One point of clarification before you listen, though. The comment about Slava Voynov was not meant to suggest that bringing him back to the NHL would be an easy one. There still are immigration issues to resolve and a league suspension to deal with. At least in LA, the belief (hope?) has long been that Voynov would be allowed to play in the NHL again once his other issues were adequately resolved, most likely ending with a 20-game suspension before he is allowed to suit up for games again. The real point to be taken from this spot is that Kings management, namely AEG owner Phil Anschutz would no longer block his hockey club from allowing such a move to take place. At this point, the ball is in the court of Voynov and his legal team. They need to somehow find a way to get his papers in order, paving the way for his return to North America.

Highlights include prediction that Lombardi will be out and Rob Blake in as GM next year. As well as the possibility of the Kings looking to bring Voynov back to LA.

That Lombardi won't be the GM next year is not a surprise to me and I'd guess not to some other Kings fans, given how he's failed this year and the 2 prior in his decision making process. Last summer when he defended his lack of moves, supported his 'big heavy game' over the speed game that the NHl has evolved into was a spotlight on him and it didn't work. Neither has overmarinating the prospects and keeping the off the roster. Big mistake resigning SUtter as well.

Blake is the Asst' GM so him taking over wouldn't be a surprise but that Sutter can't be fired was a surprise. That the only way he leaves is by his own accord. So I guess unless he doesn't get along with the new GM, that when DL goes, he sees it as a window to depart, then the Kings have him for at least thru next year if he opts out of the option year after.

The Voynov thing, it was no secret all during that event that they wanted him to remain on the roster and didn't want to admit how foul that deed was. Had he been a 6th or 7th position d, hed' have been booted off right away. So its' not a surprise or shock that they are working towards having him return. They supported the NHL's decision at the time but left a window open. How the NHL handles that return, that's the murky area.

Funny that he had info on the trade rumors about the Avs but none of his sources were revealing why the overscouting by the Rangers and what that might lead to. I really can't see any roster players on either side being involved, maybe it is just at the prospect level.

Voynov would be boon but I really don't like the idea. Players are human and all but that is baggage that will never go away. Not to mention deplorable.

Wonder if Blake would be any different than the current regime.

Not sure why Rob Blake would be the next GM.

There is nothing wrong with the culture installed under Lombardi. Plenty was wrong with the culture when Blake was a major cog in the franchise.

I would prefer Futa as the next GM.

Luc Robitaille is gaining more power within the Kings organization? That is not good news. Love Luc as a player, but I don't think he has a clue when it comes to player personnel or running a franchise.

After finally listening to it, wow if true.

Two more big points:

DL is the reason that young prospects are not playing.

If Blake (who with Luc is responsible for getting youth up this year) takes over, it could be a major regime change with possibly letting go of Futa, Stevens, and Payne to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

Interesting

Everything he says sounds reasonable, but I personally don't think Blake will be GM and I the only way I see Voynov coming back is if we trade his rights and get something. As someone mentioned earlier that's a lot of baggage coming back and it seems like a lot of hoops to jump through which almost seems like it wouldn't be worth it.

Predicted Brown wouldn't be the captain this season. Said Kopitar would be captain. Think he said that back before the 2015-16 season ended.

Not much of a bold prediction there. It was pretty clear that Brown would be stripped of the captaincy after his drop-off in play, the Kings not making the playoffs in 2015, getting kicked out of the first round in 2016, and Kopitar getting the huge pay day, which established himself as the franchise center for the next eight years.

I think the time has come for both DL and Sutter to go. I know we are stuck with some bad contracts, but we are a very talented team and should perform better than this. Our 3-on-3 play speaks volume of our speed and skill level. Seeing our forwards simply get in the zone, skate around the perimeter, pass to the point for a weak shot that doesn't even reach the net is getting old and is ineffective.

Not liking the idea of Blake being the GM. I would rather go with Futa, how long does it take for this man to be groomed into a GM? I'd say give him a try.

And the more I think about Blake as the GM, the more I hate the idea.

Yeah, I think Futa is the best choice. I don't think he is married to these players.

Maybe Blake would shock us all and be great, but I wouldn't expect it.

There is a lot that goes into being a successful GM. I don't think Blake has the chops for it.

And if Robitaille thinks Blake being the GM is a good idea, I like it even less.

He was also adamant Williams would get traded. I take his info with a grain of salt.

He predicted Clifford would be traded every deadline for the last 5 years. Also predicted Williams would be traded in 2013 and 2014. Then after Williams won the Conn Smythe he said the Kings would extend his contract. He guaranteed Vanek would be a Kings players at the 2014 deadline. He said no trade was happening that day 30 minutes before the Kings actually made a move.

I honestly think he's worse than Eklund.

But he says in the interview if you talk to 7 or 8 people you can connect the dots.

Maybe Hoven connects dot #1 to dot #5, then dot #5 to dot #2, etc.

I doubt Dean is fired. My best guess is that there is a transition period where Dean relinquishes some of his player personnel duties to guys like Futa and Blake and focuses on cap management with Jeff Solomon.

You guys are underestimating Blake's influence and respect throughout the league. I don't know about his competence as a GM, but he could be another Yzerman like GM. He's been through it all.

Maybe Uncle Phil just says to hell with it and sells the team.

There have been rumors in the past. Wonder if he still thinks about it as an option.
