HF Habs: The Martin St Louis Thread

Not making the adjustments you want is not the same as not making any adjustments.

Not sure how you’re going to argue that Mesar should be on the top line, but I’m excited to read it.

Its the inly maaningful adjustement he can make

You HAVE to make changes. Savard can't go anymore. Laine is useless if it's not working on the PP.
What changes? Everyone except Cole and Nick are essentially passengers. There's no forward shakeups that are going to create a useful line. We don't have the horses.

D is not an issue, changing savard or struble to xhekaj doesn't change the fact that most of the game is in our end and we can't generate offense.

We simply aren't good enough to compete for a cup this year.

Definitely not. But we can change what we know doesn't work. There's no sense just rolling over. Let's do something and spark the team. Worst case, result is the same.

Dvorak line works, Suzuki line works. We changed the other two lines and they're both still bad. Do you break up the lines that work to have four bad lines?

Suzuki’s line barely works and there’s one passenger on it.

The 1st pp does not work, the pp at this point is a 4vs 4

I'm OK with switching things up, yeah. What were currently doing isn't enough. Changing one player on a successful line doesn't mean that line is now bad. New isn't always bad.

And let's say we stick with the status quo. We'll almost certainly lose the series. Let's try something different and challenge the guys to step up.

Lol St.Louis has played Suzuki 19 mins in 50 mins of game time.

Ok buddy.

This guy is clueless

Terrible coaching….

It took an injury to Laine to understand he doesn’t belong on the ice.

That 6 on 5 looked so much better than the PP with Laine.

I said it before the PO, i dont see us winning a game with this coach behind the bench, he doesn’t understand whats going on or hes got a low coaching IQ

Well....if we have to go down might as well go down fighting, any change is better than no change

Any change? So let's try Caufield in goal?

Come on man. You don't break what's working. The first line is the constant for us this year. You don't touch it.

i'm not talking about breaking the first line......but cool story........by the way i'm finally very happy with the way MSL coached the 3rd period, he coach that period like a guy who wants to win.

Are you watching the games?
The major issue of this team was Laine on the 1stPP wave.
It was an obvious fix and they finally pulled the plug on him on the third. The 6 vs 5 looked so much more dominant.

I agree that MSL needs to adjust and adapt and be 100% better.

but LOW IQ + MSL do not belong in the same universe let alone the same sentence

The people blaming coaching are outing themselves as clueless, emotional fans.

I find the most positive trend of theses playoffs is how coaching is impacting our ability to stay in the games. MSL does not have the depth of players (size and skill) that Washington has, yet the team managed to not only stay in games but could of won either games. This is impressive given the disparity in size and having to shorten the bench. Yes, Washington managed to have an edge in body checks and Ozone time but the Habs had more shot attempts in both games. And yes Monty has been very good but so has Thompson.

This team fights, never gives up, bends but doesn't break and is starting to really put together a style of play that is based on speed, execution, and mental toughness. Add 5 skilled players to this team and it will be special.

It's sad but not all that surprising. For many fans there's this belief that the team needs a hero/saviour to do anything. And because they built Demidov up to be that saviour in their head they need someone to blame for Demidov not being a superstar 4 games into his NHL career. That blame naturally falls on linemates and the coach.

The really stupid part is how this has actually been great for Demidov's development. Coming in and experiencing the real physicality that is needed to win, seeing how key the small details like getting the puck deep when near the redline can be crucial, etc... These are exactly the type of lessons we want him to go into the offseason thinking about. And to Demidov's credit he's already adapting to it which is a great sign for his future as a real superstar.
