I predict MSL will coach another full year and then gets canned after a losing streak mid-season of 2026-2027.
How many shots per chance were Fla limited to?They are not (losses in EDM CGY and SEA) but winning is great as a fan. However 3 goals in 15 shots is not sustainable. Monty likely won t hold that Rhythm either.
They played a great first period, were all over the place but after that they were not very good.
I don't. Marty St Louis was in complete control of the game last evening. What I do think will happen is Marty becomes more comfortable in his skin and more confident and will be willing to take on an experienced assistant.I predict MSL will coach another full year and then gets canned after a losing streak mid-season of 2026-2027.
Hmmmm…not aging very wellWhen MSL was hired the love in began but three years in and this team needs a better coaching staff.
We want to see progression in the players but why not with the coaching staff?
No D zone structure, horribad PP and PK and it ain’t getting better.
If they insist on keeping MSL, they need to hire a veteran assistant.
IMO, it’s time to cut MSL loose and bring in a veteran staff that can teach these guys how to play with and without the puck.
I was a doubter at the beginning of the season, team was a f***ing mess defensively. Even our most positionally sound players were lost. But he and the staff improved a lot of things. And that quote, you can see the drive that got him where he is today.
The detractors imo can't see the forest for the trees.
Credit due, where credit is due............this is bang on.Roger Grillo has played a HUGE role behind the scenes …. the tactical improvements are a lot of his influence PK, PP, Matheson playing shutdown D role - big believer in top end PMD being shutdown vs offensive roles.
Grillo was the one directed USA Hockey follow that shutdown path with Jakob Slavin, while coaches felt Slavin should be an offensive Dman because of his size + skating back in 2012
MSL got a lot of slack for hiring Grillo as his advisor…
Absent results, hiring friends doesn't look good. With results, it looks great.MSL got a lot of slack for hiring Grillo as his advisor…
I'd play Heineman in place of Roy, but I have a suspicion they are playing out the year with Roy to use him in a trade this summer. hopefully he plays great - up his value. Is he going to stop being so stubborn and switch up the lines? The 4th line has been awful and the 2nd line just doesn’t work with two floaters on it. Try switching Heineman and Roy.

Both lines (especially the 4th) look disjointed to me. I think a speedy and tenacious player like Heineman to pair with Newhook, would be great for Laine 5v5. Roy can add talent to the 4th line since Evans and Armia are not doing anything.Roy has 2 goals in his last 3 games. Heineman has done nothing in the 14 games since he came back from his injury. Why would they demote the player with the most goals the last 3 games for the player who's done the least?
I wouldn’t mess with the lines. The team has been pretty hot lately and scoring goals. I don’t agree they the 4th has been bad. Anderson and Gallagher are doing their part and for the first time ever, Dvorak looks goodBoth lines (especially the 4th) look disjointed to me. I hate how Marty’s favourites never sit , never get called out , even after brutal performances.I think MSL has been good this year but man Montgomery is doing magic in STL. Woulda been interesting to see how Habs would look with him instead of marty
There are some in game decisions that I don't like from MSL, and I'm rarely pleased by his lines combos, but one thing I like about him is that it seems as if he's ready to forgive errors if the player is putting all he has to give on the ice. It's going to be good for the team even after he's long gone, and it's certainly a good thing compared to what we've seen with the Habs coaches we've seen in the last 20 yearsI hate how Marty’s favourites never sit , never get called out , even after brutal performances.
Because his favorites are high quality players who make the most meaningful contributions despite gaffs - this is precisely what you want from a level-headed and sane coach.I hate how Marty’s favourites never sit , never get called out , even after brutal performances.
Well he has never sat or punished MM, Savard, Dvorak, Armia etc, but Arbs makes a mistake, and poooof he's out rest of the game. There are some in game decisions that I don't like from MSL, and I'm rarely pleased by his lines combos, but one thing I like about him is that it seems as if he's ready to forgive errors if the player is putting all he has to give on the ice. Due to a lack of alternatives, the Vets you mention play a big role in our team’s dynamic on and off the ice. Arber Xhekaj does not.Well he has never sat or punished MM, Savard, Dvorak, Armia etc, but Arbs makes a mistake, and poooof he's out rest of the game.
