The Martin St Louis Thread

Are we going to keep ignoring the elephant in the room? Yeah this team lacks talent, but they lack structure, accountability and in-game adjustments. He’s not a good coach.

...he was a good fit at the start to get the kids intergrated; a good positive influence on a team starting a rebuild...that Phase should be over now, it's time to bring in someone who'll give them a kick in the arse when they need it...who'll bring structure to unstructured kids...we need a tougher approach now...

The issue is a lot of the core and key guys we drafted haven't even made the show yet. Still have Reinbacher, Demidov, Hage, and our first this year coming in over the next year or two. Rebuilds are just longer than fans want them to be.

...the problem isn't that we're gonna be a few years away from contending cuz we are rebuilding; the issue is that the Stage we should be at in said rebuild is not where we are atm...there's absolutely no structure in our game...no accountability...mind-boggling decisions at crucial parts of games...he's a great "Get You on Yor Feet" coach...that Stage is over...

People were fine with him two weeks ago...

...I wasn't...y'all have put up with my whining about Marty since I came back here a few weeks ago, even when we were winning...I like Marty, he was a great coach to get a rebuild started in a positive way...now it's time to move on to the tough work of Structured, winning hockey...

That is a bad excuse :
Suzuki CC Dach Newhook are all D+6/D+8 that is 2/3 of a top 6 that are considered core players / were traded to be core players. Armia Evans Anderson are bottom 6 guys you could easily fit on contender rosters (regardless of the fact that two of them are paid too much). Slaf is a 1OA in his D+3 deemed good enough to earn 8m contract who has been playing against men for 4 years.
Guhle is in his D+5, Xhekaj same thing, Carrier is a good third pair guy, Matheson would be a good top 4 on many Teams, Hutson is supposed to be an elite playmaker in his D+3 (granted 1st pro season is a good excuse).
This is not the typical roster of a Team in the third/fourth rebuild year.

The winning stretch did nothing but save St. Louis’s job. We need to still address coaching. It’s as bad as the players performances on the ice. You can fire a coach, you can’t fire the whole team.

This is one of the youngest teams in the league, of course it lacks structure. The team is exactly where it should be! Just be patient.

He has to find a way to get Dach and Slaf going he saved Caufield from Ducharme he can do it

Go Marty Go~

Specifically the game against Detroit a few weeks ago, when we were down two goals and Detroit got a delay of game penalty for a failed challenge. Instead of playing the top unit for two minutes he took them off halfway through the powerplay. Not taking a timeout in that situation was insane to me, I really wish he was more reactive to certain situations.

...just had to break this ol' classic out... :biglaugh:

...seriously though, Marty's time is up...need a structured coach with a bit more snarl to get the kids to the next level...
Nice meme. My main concern about Martin is the strategy or the system of play. The team is not ready to challenge the best teams and expecting constancy. MLS doesn't have a roster but what he does good is teaching the youngplayers and they all improve. MLS will need an assistant or a genious behind the scene to built a proper system of play in the next years.

So basically you like them so that makes them smarter and better than everybody else. Got it.

Sad truth is that after 3 drafts, 3 TDLs, 3 offseason to trade and sign UFAs, the team is still bottom 5 and it’s best players are still from Bergevin s era, and That is not even close.

You May like how they communicate but can t say they are succesful. So basically your claim that it s not an obvious appeal to authority but it is : you feel like they are smarter than everybody else so they must be right, all of that because you like how they communicate.
I think he asked chat gpt to write a love letter/fan fic about how smart our guys are

odd post

Obviously we are gonna ignore it. Don’t your remember that 12 game stretch in the last 3 years that went against the norm. Thats the real coach.

He has had 3 years to improve, no sign of improvement in the way they play. Why would he improve in the next two years.
The team has improved every year. And we were improving by leaps and bounds before injuries started up.

We knew the team would be inconsistent and that’s what they’ve been.

Has the roster truly improved all that much in his tenure?
Yes.
