The Loss of Broberg and Holloway Gripe Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Broberg's stats have him at a first pairing rates for both offense and defense.

I would argue that Walman is providing close to that for less money, but Broberg is better now and will be considerably better in the future imo
Broberg is 100% not better now. Walman has been top pair on his past two teams. Broberg has been their #4 all year.

Enjoy this thread while it lasts because come playoff time this thread gets closed and the topic needs to die until the offseason.
Seems like Broberg and Holloway are reading this thread and want to make sure everyone can get their licks in. Goal and an assist for Holloway, 2 assists for Broberg through 20 minutes against Montreal.

This summer really backfired in the worst imaginable way.

For those who don't watch Blues games, please do. The numbers don't do them justice. Broberg is a borderline first pairing guy. But the crazier story is Dylan Holloway has become their best player. He's turned into a premier, 200 ft, fast, physical power forward at just 23. We saw it in spurts in the playoffs. He became a fan favourite here. The other guys they have are guys who have been their for years. Holloway is grabbing that team and leading their charge to the playoffs. I'm so upset about losing him.

Holloway is the guy that we should've kept. Broberg was a baby that wanted everything handed to him on a silver platter. f*** Broberg.

Next season Broberg will be worth two Holloways and change. He's already worth considerably more than Holloway. To say otherwise is misdirection at its finest.

Some guy arguing with me in another thread, right now, lol, claiming one needed a crystal ball to see that Holloway was an obvious rising player. jebus. Few things get more obvious.

Denial runs strong in these parts. Holloway would easily be our third best forward, at age 23. idiot Oilers just let him go.

People prefer to dig their head in the sands and pretend it never happened, they were never Oilers, something.

Indeed the price you have to pay following this org is blind acceptance of some the dumbest asset management and retention ever seen.

Once the offersheets were signed I agree Holloway is the one they should have kept. The loss of him is absolutely monumental.

But I disagree on Broberg being a baby. He was clearly ready to be a full time NHLer all of last season and the Oilers just jerked him around instead. They completely alienated the player and poisoned the well with him.

anyone with a pair of eyes who watched the playoffs could tell their play wasn't a "fluke"
they excelled in the highest of pressure situations that they'll ever play in
the series changed against the Stars when Broberg was inserted into the lineup

meh. Both are gonna be really good playes. What both wanted was to be in the NHL, and consistently, and getting games up in the show. its hard to absolve the Oilers for spending more than a season having guys like Desharnais up instead of Broberg. Or only playing Holloway 38 games last season. Both solid players that will be very good for a longtime.

Broberg stepped in as a rookie in the finals vs Florida and managed to stabilize Nurse and play well- against FLORIDA. We were all so hyped about him. Holloway filled a massive hole next to Draisaitl and was real good against Vancouver and Dallas. Remember that 2 goal game vs Vancouver where he cut through their team like 97? Absolutely brutal asset management.

Broberg was soft af and injury prone. Desharnais for his warts at least helped on the PK and against the cycle. Broberg needed his time in the AHL to get to where he was. Holloway on the flip side was dicked around in spite of playing big boy hockey.

To anybody watching the final series Broberg and Holloway were two of our better players. They added crucial pace to our lineup that challenged Florida and backed them up as most of our lineup were exhausted by then.

People wonder why I dig in so much on this one but Holloway was gonna be the best dedicated Winger Drai had here. Just brutal to lose him right on the cusp of him pumping near PPG numbers.

Both were ready for the show and if anything Broberg play in the playoffs demonstrated in spades he was also ready. I wasn't a particular fan of bro saying this. But I was always keen on Holloway. He's the biggest winger Loss since Taylor Hall.

Broberg looked ready after the playoffs but young players can have ups and downs so his contract was a bit of a risk. Holloway's on the flip side was less of a risk.
