Brett Kulak is highkey one of the worst moves in Oilers history. It was bad on day 1 when we acquired a player who got healthy scratched halfway through the Habs Finals run, citing "hometown kid who was a key part of Montreal's Cup run" lol. Then it got even worse when the Habs picked up a likely future star in Lane Hutson with the pick we donated to them. Then we re-signed a guy who needs to be sheltered as a NHL veteran to a 2.75 million dollar AAV deal preventing us from actually getting some value contracts or upgrading a key position instead of a luxury #5 dman. Then we refused to move on from him and jammed up Broberg's lineup spot and prevented the development/opportunities of a vastly superior player. Kept giving him coddled minutes in the playoffs where fans who can't tell the difference between playing against Adrian Kempe vs playing against Carl Grundstrom dubbed him "a playoff stud". And to top it all off, this loser single handedly loses us Game 7, including some of the worst defensive coverage and gap control in NHL history on the Stanley Cup losing goal against, and somehow got out of it scot free. Zero criticism. Zero blame. Zero media attention. Zero accountability. When you know if that had been an overhated player like Darnell Nurse, Evan Bouchard, Philip Broberg, or heck even Cody Ceci in that same spot, we would be talking about that disastrous goal against for years. But because he's the hometown boy and the "respectable veteran", we can't criticize him.
You picked the perfect world with regards to Oilers fans/media narrative on Kulak: Gaslighting. f*** this player.
