I’ve never seen her be anything other than great

Is the concern about her not being good enough or just that she will be hated and catch so much flack due to the way the character was received and hated so much when the game came out?

I don't know the actress enough to say anything one way or another, but I remember how much I thought it was terrible when they casted Harry Potter to be Weird Al, and then I watched it and it was great, so until I see otherwise I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she will do the job well like the other actors and actresses in the show have

Honestly, I think the major worry about Abby's character should be handled fine in the show and shouldn't be too much of an issue provided the actor is solid, which Kaitlyn is. As somebody who considers these 2 games among my favorite all time, a lot of the concerns centered around having to play through Abby's story.

Introducing the character was fine, but building an entire relationship around Joel/Ellie and then having to force the audience to play through the main antagonist in an attempt to force sympathy isn't something people enjoyed, which is entirely understandable. It's a tragic and interesting character arc, and we'll absolutely get the same backstory with Abby in the show, but I think it's definitely one of those times where it'll translate much easier through a show than a game. Transitioning between the 2 at a better pace and not just waiting to get to see the character we're there for.

You know there is one scene that I wonder if she's going to be willing to do, and if you are familiar with the source material no, It's not the scene you are thinking.

Minor Spoiler if she's willing to do it, she has a sex scene coming, and that scene intrigues me because Iam legitimately wondering what the reaction will be to it, if It's game accurate I don't think people are going to like it.

I'm surprised this thread never got a bump considering they just released the trailer for season 2 and I have to admit it looks really good.

As somebody very familiar with the source material I'm glad to hear the show is going at least 4 seasons it means they aren't going to rush it.

Season 1 was really good for the most part but I did feel like it was rushed.

The only thing I didn't like is what they did with Bill he was completely f***ed up.

But I digress, I am curious as to what the reaction to season 2 will be.

That girl looks A LOT like Abby. Great casting.

Having played both of the games for the first time earlier this year I think my feelings on S1 are cemented. The show is too boring and the dramatic bits they’re going for don’t resonate as effectively because of it. The impactful moments are interspersed amongst the danger and action in the game and the pauses they provide make you close to the characters. The show does it in reverse and it was quite boring to me, personally.

Damn though, looks like they’re going through with it in S2. Wasn’t sure if they’d wait until the season finale or lollygag around, drawing the series out a few extra seasons like they’re doing with HoD.

Pedro Pascal and gruesome deaths due to head injuries on HBO series
…go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Belle is fantastic.
but she looks nothing like the character. and she really wasn't that good to be completely honest and what it's just not possible to find people who are great actors AND look like the characters?

even Pedro as Joel which I'm fine with really doesn't look that much like Joel, cant even grow a full beard lol and his acting was fine but his line delivery was rushed imo.

or maybe the show just had a higher tempo I dunno but if you compared the HBO show to the game the word for word parts u will see how inferior it is

will be interesting to see if people will stick around or rage quit it like the game though, Ill be watching even if I think it's going to be a pile of crap

I'll never understand why people care if an actor doesn't look like the character from the source material. Just incredibly silly to me. And to answer your question, no it wouldn't be easy to find an actor who is talented and looks just like the character. It would be incredibly hard in fact. There's probably less than a dozen English speaking girls in the world who are Bella's age and can act as well as her.

I really dont think thats true, thats why they have auditions. I dunno that girl from the new Alien movie was pretty good and looks like her too so to think it;s impossible to find is just crazy.

and honestly Bella wasn't even that great.

Yakuza just aired and all the characters look alot like the in game characters was that just based off luck?

I'd be very surprised if an actress auditioned who looked like Ellie and was a better actress than Ramsey who most definitely was great. And again, why does it matter if they don't look like the video game character? HBO isn't making this just to please the people who played the game.

Honestly Bella isn't even very good. she was over acting as Ellie swearing nonstop at moments just for the sake of it. she was fairly far from making me believe she was Ellie from the game.

Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus) would have been perfect to play as Ellie and you do know there's ALOT of actors out there right? There 100% is someone out there with the looks and acting abilities, Cailee is just one example.

It doesn't matter if HBO wants to just please the people who love the game or not, but they have to expect backlash from those who have LOVED this since it's release in 2013. I'm also likely one of the only people in here who bought the 1st season on 4K, it wasn't cheap..... but I for sure think this could have done MUCH better.

1st game could have spread across atleast 2 seasons, instead they rushed the shit out of it.

besides half of you are going to quit on the show after 1 or 2 episodes in 2nd season. ALOT quit on the 2nd game even though it was incredible. I assume the same will happen with the show.

I disagree with pretty much everything you just said. You seem to be under the impression that most viewers have played the game when I'm pretty certain that's not the case at all. HBO isn't catering to video gamers, they make high quality shows meant for intelligent viewers. They didn't cater GOT to the book readers either. Plus any suggestion I've seen by people who played the game have been awful.

well those of you who never played the game have to understand that there are ALOT of people who have LOVED this for over 10 years now and have the right to speak their mind about what they see. it's not for you to tell us we're wrong.

and that's because the game is a masterpiece that they butchered on HBO

alot of gamers still bitch about the 2nd game. u will see what I mean and I'd be surprised if everyone sticks around after whats coming.

I don't give a shit about the game or the people who loved it and I really don't think HBO does either. If you're going to complain about things that I think are stupid and pointless then I'm gonna tell you that. If you can't handle that then don't post on here.

Gamers bitched about the second game for reasons the average HBO watcher couldn't give a shit about
Exactly, Arthur Morgan seems to think this show was just for the people who played the game when that's not true at all.

I highly doubt they had open auditions for Ellie. HBO loves to re-use actors, both leads from the same show too, so they probably offered it to Bella Ramsey, had her read and were satisfied
