I don't understand why we're calling up Hildeby?

Artur is like 2 months younger than him, has better numbers, and is also waiver-eligible. It's not like Hildeby put up good numbers when he was here either. He put up a .869 save percentage and is now the worst Marlies goaltender out of Artur/Murray/Hildeby.

Artur hasn't lost a game in regulation all season for the Marlies. Give him a shot.

I think Artur will get his chances, but maybe they feel like Hildeby is a big goalie who plays like Stolarz and Woll so the adjustment the team has to make is going to be less than in front of a smaller reflex goalie (I don't know his tendencies, just spitballing).

Personally Hildeby has been playing awful. He plays like a bigger Samsonov. Loses his angle often and then slides all over the place.

I don't trust him in an NHL net right now. His stats have been declining every start in the AHL. He started off well and now he's under .900 in the AHL. With 2 sets of back to backs coming up I would have preferred Artur or Murray, but I can see why they wouldn't want to call up Murray because he's not waiver-exempt. So if the injury is short-term it's not worth risking losing Murray over, who is also playing well in the AHL right now.

Isn't Murray also hurt?

Maybe they can call him up and not disturb whatever the Marlies have going for them.

I'm not sure the extent of the injury but I believe they'll have to put him on waivers on the way down. It's not worth losing Murray over if the injury is short-term though because then if we have another long-term injury we don't have him as a safety net.

The only reason Hildeby's numbers are so bad is the 1 stinker game we had against Columbus where he let in 6. Columbus has done that to a few teams. Might have even affected him after being back sent down. Wasn't long ago everyone was screaming to "unleash the Hilde-beast" and now he's fodder? He's had an nhl taste and deserves the next shot.

Although I’d personally rather see Artur get a shot as backup, a possible reason they’re going Hildeby - Artur has only played 9 games in North America, period. They may figure he’s adjusting to enough already, and want to keep him with one (development focused) team vs. calling him up.

This is it exactly. They are just doing what they see as protecting their prospect. Similar to last season when Hildeby was called up but Jones still played both halfs of a back to back.
I probably would have preferred to see AA here but I understand why the team is going in this direction.
