Copp is, and always has been, a pretty important piece to this team during this transition period to the kids. It's a shame that this board has decided to turn him into the physical representation of all their dissatisfaction with the franchise over the last few years.
His salary, his pay, his leadership, and more than anything, his example of doing all the things being asked of him to help this team get through this time so it can start contending with no acknowledgement is commendable. He wants to help put the franchise back on good footing yet many of look like he's some kind of anchor weight holding this team back from competing for a Cup. That is so insane, I can't even wrap my head around the logic of it.
He's going to play out his contract (which in no way is hurting us), and I'll spoil the angry rants before it happens, will probably resign with the Wings as his reward for this yeoman's work he's been doing for the last three years. He'll be 32, pretty busted, and he'll get some weird 3yr, 2AAV, deal where he rolls around on the 4th line as a vet leader/healthy scratch (the forward equivalent of Petry).
