If this was around deadline time and the Hawks were selling some guys, I'd pick up Vinnie.

Nashville presumably wants him on their ahl team. If they claim him back he's able to go there.

You can but if the original waiving team claims him (and no other team does) they can put him directly in the AHL. Purpose of waivers is to ensure players that would be on an nhl roster somewhere get the chance, not to steal AHL players/org depth.
