There is NO shortage of players in the pipeline. Replacing the vets will NOT be an issue. 2030's team will be awesome. So right now, 3 of the top 5 leaders in save % are Canadian. None are on the team. Just goes to show you, there are some capable netminders. We are in lull with star goalies though. I can remember in 2018 and 2022 the idea was that a healthy Price would be the guy and there was still Fleury hanging around. Holtby would have still been elite in 2018 too. But Price, Fleury and Binnington were the guys in 2022. Just goes to show you what happens when you take away two HHOFers and how thin it gets.
Right now Canada's best are: Hill, Binnington, Montembault, Thompson, Blackwood, Kuemper, Skinner. That's at least 7 guys right there I am alright with seeing on the team. Several have plenty of playoff experience, even a Cup. There isn't a Vezina winner there, but does there have to be? Definitely some decent goalies. Not the elite ones we are used to, but we'll get them back.
Canada has 20 of the top 50 scorers in the NHL. We have 25 of the top 50 defensemen scorers. Sure defense is more than just points, but that just goes to show you that Canada is still in that 40-50% range of elite players more or less in the NHL. And if recent drafts in the 1st round prove to be true it will increase. We'll see. But there should be plenty of talent to choose from in the coming years.
