Next season will be the final year that Nick Foligno wears the "C", and will mark the conclusion of Connor Murphy wearing the "A".

During that season is when the next generation will make their cases for why they deserve captaincy.

Right now, the frontrunners are Alex Vlasic, Connor Bedard, and Frank Nazar.

It's very likely all 3 will wear letters in the 2026-27 season, going forward.

Who among them do you think, as of now, deserves the "C"? Do you think anyone else, other than those 3, will contend for a letter?

So this thread isn't about me?

Like Disgruntled said, who knows without having access to the locker room. I do like the idea of Vlasic wearing an A, though. He seems like a good kid, feels like a veteran, is still super young, could be here for the next decade. He'd be who I'd give Jones' A to if it were up to me (again, with a much more limited knowledge of the team compared to those in the locker room).

We've got a year before we have to consider who'll replace Foligno. We'll see how much some of these kids can mature by then and go from there.

Dicky didn't have it in an official capacity, he was just a guy that often got it when one of the others weren't playing.

It's not like they officially made him an alternate and they're stripping him of his letter.

He was the first one to wear it whenever Murph went down everytime. He also got it first last year when Foligno broke his hand in a fight. And when he went down they gave it to Maroon. I'd bet the house he's the full time A next season.

He might be.

But I honestly think it deserves to go to someone else. Foligno, Murphy, and Dickinson are all currently set to be UFAs after next season, and there is real reason to believe that none of them will be here for the 26-27 season. It makes a lot more sense to at least have one of your captains be a guy signed here long term.

Not to mention, the coaching staff ultimately makes the decision about who gets a letter. Maybe a new coach would honor the guys who already wear them, but again, Dickinson has been more of a placeholder with wearing the A rather than an actual alternate captain. Could see Carle the new coach going with someone else, which again, Vlasic would make a lot of sense.
 
Foligno specifically mentioned Vlasic, Nazar and Bedard, so maybe those are the favorites atm, but hard to not talk about Rinzel as a possibility, he had a huge impact its too early to say what he could ultimately become as a player and a leader...

If Knight wasn't a goalie he would be in consideration too, but IDK, Luongo didn't work out too well as a captain lol
 
They're usually voted on and I can't imagine Dickinson did much to lose it. Who wears the letter is immaterial to boot. Foligno was the captain long before they put a C on his chest.
 
Maybe a new coach goes with 3 veterans so he has the year to evaluate the young guys leadership.
Some teams let the players vote for captain, others don’t.

Am I the only one who would prefer to TRY to wait a year and toss cash at Kaprizov rather than Marner now?

I think everyone would prefer Kaprizov but there's no guarantee either actually hits the market.

WTF do you mean by wtf?

I requested it a few weeks ago when there was a lively discussion here about a player's plus/minus. DHF was missing for about a month at that point (turned out he went into a f***ing coma), NoFun wasn't quite as active as he's been in the past (that's what he gets for having a family and social life), and the third mod was HGF who hadn't logged into their account in over a year.

So I figured if nobody else was going to sign up, which there are a few really solid posters here who would do well in that role, that I'd inquire and try to kind of police these threads by hopefully just telling people to calm the f*** down (don't want to hand out infractions to you folk, but I will if need be). Took a bit for the request to go through, but had it become official last night.

To get things back on topic, NoFun wears the C, and me and DHF both got As. But I've had it for a lot less time and only got it because a previous mod left, so I guess I'm basically this board's Jason Dickinson.
