GDT: The Four Nations Tournament Thread

Yeah this. If Sweden's top guys show up they probably win that. Zibanejad, Pettersson, Nylander and Forsberg were all not great. Their "third line" looked like their best. They tried juggling the top-six a bit later in the game, but still none of those guys generated much.
They showed up they just have to go up against insane players and mostly got owned 😂

If you're going to bet on this tourney (I certainly am very much against gambling...thanks grandma...hehe...) I'd say bet on the most ludicrous thing you can imagine. That's how the NHL is making their money. Otherwise just save your money or better yet buy pallets of KD. Listen to local radio. Don't buy American.

They all had rather poor games, I don't think it was really getting owned. They weren't dynamic offensively much at all and it wasn't like Binnington was great, they just needed to generate more quality shots.

Shot totals were pretty even, and Sweden generated a fairly good amount of offensive-zone time.

Thanks to the guys who brought some positivity here. Sid is a legend and seeing him still playing in these moments is truly something to cherish. Loved watching it.

Having The Hip on the intro and Mario Lemieux walk into the Bell Centre got the emotions flowing

The attitude that this is meaningless is the attitude of losers and demeaning to the players that are representing.

You get the honour to put on the Canada jersey you compete to win...end of story

If you heard the intro from Bettman this is a stepping stone to best on best every 2 yrs with at least 8 teams next time

Point and Hagel really stood out from the btm 6. Toews really stepped up with Theodore out. Loved that Marchand is instantly in compete mode and was getting greasy.

I really don’t think you can compare hockey players to restructuring a company coming out of CCAA protection. There is no salary cap, 8yr contracts, injuries that hinder high level athletic performance amongst the top earners, etc etc etc
If I had an employee who ignored reality and denigrated another employee, I would trade them

I can see what Miller was going for, but that was never the way with Petey.

We rallied for Petey in the playoffs. He wants to be here. He knows there are enough fans behind him. That's a huge f***ing vote of confidence by the management. One that Gillis made with the Sedins in 2009. And the bet paid off.

The bet paid off with what exactly? I must have missed the Stanley Cup banner in the rafters at Rogers arena. They will never win a cup with Petey leading the way.

Neither will we as fans if we don't make the same bets and treat our players like fancy-ass horses and not the investments to capital they actually are.

If you can't see why that 2011 team was special, even though we didn't win...that's on you. I can't teach you that.

You know why the Summit Series was salvaged? The god awful experiences the teams had in Montreal and Vancouver. The fans were actually supporting the Soviets. Maybe they played nice hockey, but I'm no f***ing commie. Without Espo's dressing down of all Canadians, I truly don't believe we win that series. That and slashing Kharlamov.

Hockey is brutal, refs won't catch everything.

A treat of a game. Not seeing many mea culpas from the "gimmick all-star game intensity" crowd.

Pace in the first period and OT was crazy. Intense, physical, talent on display. Great, entertaining hockey.

But sure, the Debbie Downers didn't want to watch this.

Looked like fairly typical Pettersson this season, good defensive game but not dynamic offensively at all.
But wait, according to the Petterhaters I thought the six second clip from practice definitively showed Petey's skating was fixed and he would be flying??

Fun game, looked like the intensity was there. Not the physicality of the playoffs but other than that it was fun

Really looking forward to CAN vs USA, maybe we’ll see the physicality ramp up

Don’t really understand the outrage over MacKinnon in OT

That was a pretty good game to watch.

Thought Sweden actually carried the play but Canada just has better talent.

The Marner OT shot was just perfect on a half chance.

Will watch more of these games.

Does tendonitis make you completely whiff on one timers in overtime?

Better than an asg, and fwiw I thought ep was better than nylander, and marner until late in the third. He's still about to be overpaid.

If you have McDavid and MacKinnon I don't hate letting them go solo in OT. They produced some good scoring chances doing that. And importantly they didn't get caught in the offensive zone giving up odd man chances the other way.

God love him, but he was trying to fit a Tesla through the knothole in a tree out there.

The 1st solo dash McDavid and Makar are lazily skating toward their bench. Mack goes 1 v 3, gets an ozone draw so maybe not the best process but not a bad result. The lazy line charge bothered me more than MacK’s effort.

2nd dash he cuts to the slot and gets off a shot from a dangerous area, I didn’t see a pass that would’ve been more dangerous.

The 2 v 1 with McDavid yea the pass is probably the better play vs a goalie like Gus but again not an atrocious play to get a shot on net from in close.

Gotta think Petey getting demoted is not optimal. Although it was against this monster Canadian team. Hopefully he fares better in the next game against Finland. Get some momentum there and then hope he doesn’t get matched with one of the greatest shutdown forwards of our lifetime, J. T. Miller.

NYR is cooked. Zibanejad no lie looks like shit out there. He doesn't even look at a healthy playing weight.
