That's good to hear. From a "what's left to do on the OL" perspective, it seems to be two-fold:
1) Capable replacement for Cosmi who can become a solid swing/back-up on his return
2) Replacement back-up C

Per my earlier post, these coincide nicely with a relative strength of the draft in the area we expect to be picking. Some guys who could be available (a lot are listed as OT, where they played in college, but profile better to the interior in the league):

Late first/maybe early 2nd:
G. Zabel (OT -- projects as G, also can play C)

Mid/late 2nd, early 3rd:
D. Jackson (OT/G -- natural LG who played LT well for OSU after starter went down; question if he could play RG or if Allegretti could move over until SC return)
W. Milum (LT -- projects better at G; is he a left side only guy, or could he move to RG?)

3rd rd:
O. Trapilo (RT -- if he's able to start as a R, maybe Coleman could play at G?)
M. Mbow (light OT who projects inside at either RG or C)
T. Ratledge (pure RG)

Zabel and Milum seem tailor-made for our situation, and Ratledge seems like a good immediate fit w/ potential to be a long-term piece.

Coleman played his first two years of college at RT, LG and a little RG. He was solid, especially at pass pro. So he could move inside easily.

He's a strong tackler, heavy hitter, and excellent in run support. His issue is in coverage, so hopefully he'll benefit from better coaching to help his decision-making. He's more reliable in the red zone with the shorter field to account for, less so when things are more wide open.

Certainly not the standout that Chinn was for us, but he's a good player.
To be fair - Chinn was *not* coming in off of a good season in 23-24. In fact, it was bad.

So I need to chill out, LOL.

Yeah, Chinn had a much improved 24 vs his 23. But he left for the cash. I think our coaching staff, even the defensive side, is pretty solid and I expect them to find a few gems here or there under rocks or behind trees.

I'm just not sure I agree that it will be worse based solely on the names going in and out. That's rarely been exactly how it worked. Mikey and Johnny Newton being in year two will help them improve. Keeping Wagner helps. A full season of ML should help, it will CERTAINLY help vs trotting out Benjamin St Toast. Losing Fowler (tbd) would hurt but there are options to replace him if he does leave. His pass rush was OK, not great, but his run defense was bad (Ranked 50 by PFF) and his tackling was dreadful, ranked 29 by PFF. Plus Fowler will be 31 this year, so he's not about to suddenly get much better.

Losing Chinn and replacing him with a nearly identical player in terms of style and grade, isn't a massive downgrade.

The big obvious question is, how will Kinlaw perform compared to what Jon Allen actually gave them last year? Kinlaw would be paid like a starting DT but will Johnny Newton and Payne actually be the starters? Will they rotate all three a lot to keep them all fresh? Then there is also still the draft which may provide one or two starters depending on where they go.
My comment was made before we signed Harris to replace/augment Chinn

I dunno. We will see. I am still in the “defense is worse” camp

Allen vs Kinslaw
Chinn vs Harris

I don’t think we win either of those.

YES, young players progression will be a thing, and we should expect it.

But none of these are clean wins for the team, or like Samuels and Tunsil are.

Team needs a lot more parts added to the defense. The Edge is a mess, and I don’t like the DB room yet. Like at all.

Marcus Mariota is still a FA. He was pretty good in his spot starts last season but he was a 10mill cap hit. Im not sure sure I want him back at that price.

We almost always end up with 0

We don't follow the formula well at all, which is basically if you draft well and keep your players until they become free agents, then if you don't sign them, you get the comp picks. We've traded or released all our top picks for so long, that's why we get nothing. Its also a big offset when you sign expensive free agents, which we do all the time, because we don't retain our own.

I have to say that the Jonathan Allen deal really highlights this. First, they announce he's going to be traded, and everyone on earth knew that he would be released instead. Rather than keep him until his contract expired then get at least a comp pick for him, they released him for nothing, signing in his place a likely inferior player for close to the same amount in cap hit. Instead, had they simply kept him for this year, and let him walk away next year, he would have certainly contributed to us getting at least a later round comp pick.

Basically, teams that draft well then spend close to the cap, to where they have expensive free agents leave, benefit from the comp pick rules. Baltimore, SF, Dallas, Buffalo, Rams, Detroit, etc. Teams like us that draft poorly and have tons of cap room, won't get squat. It will take 2 more years for us to reverse this trend, because comp picks are always awarded for last years losses.

Traded down every chance I got unless someone I loved was there. Probably not realistic, but this draft would make me squeal with delight.
Millum would compete at guard and TRapillo would slot in at RT for Wylie. OL would be stacked and deep. Didn't land a stud edge rusher but such is the breaks.

Don't mind this thought he was a good a depth RBer this past season.

Wouldn't mind Kupp signing if he's released. Rolling with Scary Terry, Deebo, Kupp, Luke M. seems pretty solid there. Then could see drafting two D players with their first two picks.

We also resigned Rodriguez (also a Kentucky kid). I like him. runs downhill. I’m kinda done with B Rob but he is under contract. Ekler I like and is also signed. Doesn’t really leave any room to bring another back in which i think we need.

Even dobbins would be an upgrade over brob, he looked pretty damn good for LA last year

We need a kicker. Can I get an Amen?

(Or a "Damn skippy" or "Sho'nuff" or "That's wassup" or "Word" or "Preach" or "Facts" or "Right on" or "Indeed" or "Bet" or "Forrealtho" or "True dat" or "Fo'sho" or whatever the hell else you kids are saying these days.)

(Get off my lawn!)

Our starting RB may well come in the draft. It's loaded, and there will be Day 1 starters available through the first 3 rounds at least.
Yea, pick up a lightning to BRob’s thunder, like Dylan Sampson in the middle rounds. Move him around formations, get him ~ 15 touches/gm, and we’ll get some more explosive plays.

Which is totally fine, just dont run it back with Brob getting a workhorse role again. He should be the short yardage/goal line power back. Our best RB last year by a mile was JD when the rest of the run game would just stall out, and they gotta take some of that load off of him
