Been prepping cauliflower as per this easy recipe: Crispy Pan Fried Cauliflower Recipe

They come out sweet with a nice texture.

There are variations online but this is the simplest.

So if you’re looking to add more vegetables to your meal, or a variation from what you usually have, this is a nice option.

Do you tip for takeout orders?

I appreciate service workers and when I’m waited on, I am more then generous.

However, if I’m just picking up an order and the individual is just handing it to me or bagging it and handing it to me, what’s the appropriate thing to do?

How would you react if when paying for takeout, the cashier hands you the payment device and on the screen it shows the tipping options with the curser on the 20% tipping option? Would you pay it? Switch it to 15%? Not tip at all?

Tipping should be reserved for great service, not people just doing their job. There are a lot of great servers out there who add something extra when you sit down. Those are the ones you show appreciation for. Ones who can't be bothered even filling up your water or engaging in a little pleasant conversation do not deserve a tip.

Tipping shouldn't exist. Employers should pay a fair wage. If your business model can't support employees then your business model doesn't work, plain and simple. How does every non-American/Canadian country have so many restaurants and bars without any form of tipping culture?

It's crazy, when I order my groceries on-line from Walmart, they try to sneak in a tip wen you check out and their default is 10%, like I'm gonna hand over ten bucks to someone doing their job, and not knowing how well they do it. I g o for the lowest, 4%, I'm not that cheap. I've had some pretty surly dudes delivering, but I also had this elderly gent who agreed to take back some extra large cooler bags and ice packs left over by the last guy. So I gave him 5$'

My magic # is getting closer :sarcasm:

Not a chance. As is tipping culture is already odd as hell.

I found out like 15 years ago that if you get a massage sometimes you tip the masseuse. Does that mean I need to type a physiotherapist? Doctor? Bus driver?

Do I tip when I buy a new car too?

I'm sure you've heard it plenty but to answer your question more directly I feel like we're already conditioned to tip for things we don't need to and the idea that we need to tip for takeout is just too much for me. At that point I'd have to tip everyone.

When I go to a restaurant I usually tip 18% or so because what does a couple more dollars hurt. That said, a pet peeve of mine is when certain companies pre-set tips to 18%+. Some places have the default at 20% and you have to actually edit and put 15% or whatever you like. That's just complete abuse of an already ridiculous system to me.

Turns out Moishe’s was not permanently closed. I’ve never been to their old location but the new one looks glam. Probably expensive.

They were sold to owners of La Cage (aux sports). Decided to re-open in old-port with what seems like a pricier menu.

I think pandemic delayed it but it was always the plan.

It shouldnt exist but it does.

Not sure that punishing low wage workers for this belief is really the way to go about it.

Ive been an industry worker all my life by the way, the tip you give usually goes to the hardworking kids trying to make it or even the kitchen, a lot of spots share tips now. If the order is decently priced, why not? If you like the service provided or the product they give you and go there often, IMO you should be able to muster a few more dollars. Especially for small places, aka not mcdonalds, these guys can go f*** themselves and pay decent wages.

As for the money thats in the service industry... its not as much as you think, even for owners.

I'm a little thrown off by your comment. You suggest that we should not punish low wage workers for the belief tipping shouldn't exist. A second later a low wage earner at mcdonalds can f*** themselves and pay decent wages. I know what you mean but made me laugh.

I always tip when I have to but I honestly wish they'd just include the 15% or whatever in the price and just pay their employees.

As a consumer its exactly the same price for me but there's no bullshit behind it.

The idea of a tip percentage barely makes sense to begin with. If I go to a restaurant and order a wagyu steak or a prime steak its literally the same cooking technique but suddenly that 15% will be on a bigger number for no additional effort in work.

Just put in the price and pay the employees. That's it.

Mcdonalds can actually afford the salary and theyre usually paid pretty well for less work.

As for the steak, if your chef cooks a wagyu the same as a prime, hes probably not worthy of a bigger tip. And on the other hand, if you can afford wagyu in canada, you can probably afford to tip !

Every restaurant can afford to pay their employees if they adjust the cost of the meal.

The point isn’t if you can afford to tip. I openly said increase the price of the meal and pay your employees. It’s the same cost for the consumer but the employees get a consistent wage now.

Spent a considerable amount of time in the Mediterranean while in my youth. 19-23 years old. After 6 months of some nasty maritime interdiction in the Red Sea? We were summarily flown to Napoli for some RR. One of my favorite memories! Was 6’2 at 220lbs lol and HUNGRY! My first step off of the base, I was greeted by a local liaison… Told him I wanted pizza… LOL. After a 40 minute drive, my buddy was with me, we ended up at a large nondescript house with a small sign in front. We questioned the driver and he smiled while saying “very good”! A whole Italian family greeted us when we walked in! We ended ip spending 200US dollars between the food and drinks. Fantastic clam pasta on one of the largest platers I’ve ever witnessed and easily a 22 inch Napoli pizza! The beer was called Loenwisen(sp) served cold in a giant fluke! I shit you not brothers and sisters! If anyone knows where I can find that beer? Let me know!

Do you tip at the drive thru? the pharmacist? the clerk handing you a pack of smokes? I'm guessing no,and shouldn't if you ask me.
